Can either of you even explain how tariffs work?

https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/what-are-tariffs

Read something for fuck sake, you’re just as bad as the people you hate

:picard:

Tldr

But I choose to believe a tarrif is this

An American steel girder cost $10

A Chinese steel girder cost $5

If there's a 100% terrif on Chinese girders

I buy girder from China, I pay China $5 and uncle sam $5

So I might as well buy the amareican girder for $10 and support my compatriot

That's the idea but also you have to keep in mind that you otherwise as a consumer could have paid 1/2 the price for that girder.  Multiply that across thousands of homes and buildings, etc.  this is why tariffs are said to be inflationary.  They literally artificially raise the price at the point of sale

Not only is this common sense, we have centuries of real world examples when a regime of robust tariffs lead to inflation. It’s honestly crazy we have someone who could become president that is ignorant of this reality

Trudeau imposed a 100% tarrif on Chinese EV cars because China released a $20,000 EV that has better battery technology than North American EV, so he is trying to stop people from importing them

Yep gopher your tariff example was exactly how it works

Basically with trumps tariffs we'd see inflation literally FLY to historically high numbers, it would hurt 90% of Americans. The top 10% wouldn't give a shit, they'd be getting richer and richer.

It drives me insane that people are cheering on for Trump when he plans on destroying the economy for the vast majority of people. Not to mention all his dangerous rhetoric "enemy within", etc...

It's disgusting man. It really is.

Then again, when you cultivate your base as the dumbest of the dumbs, it's not surprising they don't know any better cuz "EDUCATION IS WOKE"

Targeted tariffs intended to protect a nascent domestic industry is a fairly common practice. China doesn’t sell cars in North America, so the tax doesn’t raise any revenue. It serves to prevent China from entering the market and undercutting domestic production. Cars are kinda a special case as well because there is a free trade agreement that allows tariff free production anywhere in North America. Most large European, Korean and Japanese car companies make their cars being sold in North American in North America.

The USMCA free trade agreement contains enforcement mechanisms for requiring that a certain percentage of parts and assembly are sourced in North America. A car that is imported duty free from either Canada or Mexico must be assembled in one of those countries using at least 75% domestically produced parts.

Mesa County is in very rural part of Colorado, and is run by Republicans. The current county clerk responsible for securing the vote is a Republican named Bobby Gross. Ms. Gross sounds a little miffed that the Democratic Secretary of State went public about these intercepted ballots

Quote:
While we understand the Secretary of State’s desire to make public statements, this is our community and our investigation,” Gross said. “It is critical that we follow proper procedures to ensure a thorough and effective investigation without tipping off those involved. The people of Mesa County deserve transparency and accountability, but it must be done in a manner that protects the integrity of the investigation.”

Mesa county has had serious election fraud problems recently. The previous county clerk was a hardcore 2020 election denier and she was just sentenced to nine years in prison for giving Mike Lindell access to the voting machines and data she was responsible for securing.

BTW, this crime involved someone intercepting mail in ballots while in transit via the USPS. Those ballots were then filled out by an individual and then returned by mail to the clerks office. These fraudulent ballots were identified because signatures did not match those on record. The system is working.

Just like the Pennsylvania registration case, the candidates benefitting from this case have yet to be identified. All we know is there has been fraud. It’s a little suspicious that it’s the republican election official who is mad that the public was informed about the incidents.

And speaking of the PA case, there are some public posts that have been identified that correlate with the known details about the fraudulent registrations: at least a couple hundred forged applications were delivered by an organization that paid its canvassers to a location in the city of Lancaster on the last day to register. While both sides use paid canvassers, it is notable that the Trump campaign is relying almost exclusively on them. According the press conference, the places this organization targeted included parking lots of shopping centers.  Compare to this:

It might be interesting, but I was never in any doubt that trump could hold a casual conversation. The question is whether that conversation is based in reality or not. I have no reason to not presume like every other time he opens his mouth, he is lying. The man is a morally degenerate pathological liar and sociopath and him going on Joe Rogan doesn’t change that fact one bit.

Just give it a go Koods.  Certainly makes no difference to me if it never changes your political mind. I have no vote in your election.  But it may just…explain or otherwise temper a few things.  And I’d rather here from a prospective “ultimate” political representative in long form than the mechanised sound byte fever presently endemic to “legacy media”.

Take it back 150+ years—who the fuck wouldn’t want to hear, long form and ranging, from a president whether former or sitting?

And when the opposite prospective representative cannot do the same…I just can’t credit them with the same credibility.  As with anyone else I’d meet or encounter in the world.

I lived in grand junction for a few years and can confirm that mesa county is a conservative stronghold.  Lots of granola eating liberals too but they don't run the place yet.  Big "bikers for Trump" presence and so forth.  There's a lot good things to be said about the area but the local politics isn't really one of them.

Ok but the idea that this is candid is exactly why people are duped into watching other politicians talk in the media.
