It was obviously never true, but one of the reasons Trump won is that he pitched himself as a dove. Hillary supported Iraq, which Trump pointed out as a failure, and oversaw the destruction of Libya. People know that foreign policy is basically on rails, even with ostensible “change” candidates like Obama, so the outsider allure of Trump carried weight.

Maybe Hillary wins and antagonizes Russia more over Crimea, and war kicks off sooner. But for all intents and purposes, we are now at war with Russia, so not an entirely unfounded claim.

I suspect it has a lot to do with his KGB background.  That is a reasonable suspicion to have Putin himself likely wages those type of influence campaigns many times in the past (and did so to support Trump).

i forgot where but i was reading about kgb tactics and the ways they would manipulate people during the cold war.

now you log on the interwebz and realize they never stopped and it has worked amazingly well in this country and even here:shrug:

the amount of water these people can get americans to carry for them is almost unbelievable. happening in plain sight and nobody seems to know what to do about it.

I have read that Putin despised Hillary, blamed her for fomenting rallies and opposition to him when she was secretary of state.


From everything I’ve read she consolidated power as SoS and was basically pushing Obama right in every conflict. If I was in America’s crosshairs, I wouldn’t want the rabidly pro-intervention lady as Commander in Chief either.

Either way, I’m not going to relitigate the Democratic primaries for the 1000th time here. But this idea that America is in the political reality it’s in because Bernie fans were too misogynistic and Trump-like is incredibly stupid. We are in the position we’re in because liberalism is fundamentally incapable of addressing the contradictions inherent to capitalism, especially when so much of our electoral process is dictated BY capital. And your typical Warren supporter wants to thread the needle between “we need to change things for the good” and “changing things for the good is impossible (and even possibly bad).” That’s why candidates like her cannot win. It’s why Biden has, despite a pretty successful first term, struggled to keep voters on his side.

Act like Russia is tricking people in the west into … doing something, and when I say everyone does it, I get the token olive branch of “of course the CIA is also bad.”

There is no proportionality here. It’s just team sports.

Everyone here cares or they wouldn’t post here. I’m not asking people to post peer-reviewed studies I’m just trying to get people to say what they actually think, and perhaps even think about the reasons why they think that.

Yeah, it’s the shroomery. Pretty crazy that some of y’all’s politics are indiscernible from some lanyard wearing lawyer on K street. It’s also one of the few places that hasn’t been astroturfed to shit, so I’m confident I’m talking to an actual person and not some paid stooge on a military base in Langley or Moscow.

This comment is so vague I’m not even sure you know what you’re talking about.

Reading what? Where?
What tactics?
Manipulate how?
By what metric has it worked amazingly well?


The context here is that (some) Americans were concerned Hillary would start a war with Russia, given her support for (and starting of) previous wars. She was going off about Crimea back in 2014 and making allusions to Hitler.

Obviously, thinking Clinton would continue being a hawk is stupid, and the more salient explanation is that the Russians tricked us all into believing that. Or maybe you’re saying the Russians tricked us into not wanting to support Ukraine, idk you don’t use very many proper nouns.
