Just watered my Cyans bed, still too warm and dry this year.
There were only 1 or 2 colder nights down to maybe 45 F during the last weeks.
Weather forecast says 50-77 F :sun: this week, some rain and then down to 40 F by night next week. That sounds like ideal pinning conditions.

Looked closely after watering and what a nice surprise. First pins are already showing :grin:

This is great looks man!
I've just watered my Azurescens and Cyanescens patches which I created with lots of spawn in March this year, and occasionally watered. There is mycelium breaking to the surface in some parts of the patch, some more heavily than others, but no pins yet. :frown:

The temperatures at night are still 6-8 Celsius, and its too dry and not enough rain, but there will be a rain in 4 days followed by a 4 Celsius night temperature, so perhaps my pins will happen in around a week! If so, I'll post an update! I really hope so..

I have used small Beech wood chips for the beds as nutrition for the Azures and Cyans!

Your patches look fully colonized. :thumbup: I also used beech chips.
With the drop in temperature you should see pins soon. Waiting for your update.

    I was worried about the 60 gallon aerator for my AACT.  I figured the bacteria overload from the spillage at the base of the tank was going to hurt the small cyan patch.

    Turns out it might have helped a little.  These are in an area that had the most AACT applied.  The fruits look good.

3-4" is likely too much to fruit through. How far the mycelium is from the surface depends on if there is grass and stuff there to keep the humidity up.  My ovoids fruiting in grassy spots, the mycelium can be seen at the surface if you spread the grass out.  Some times you get some to pop up in bare mulch and the stem starts an inch under the surface.

I've found adding chips slowly works better than dumping a ton at once.  I've expanded one patch a ton from this spring just by tossing in a handful a few times a week. Also risk invaders with too much spawn.  I had red stem brown tip stink horns take over an ovoid patch.  I think i smothered it with too much spawn and casing layer.


Yeah I never see ovoid mycelium at the surface, even when they fruiting en masse. If you dig down an inch there will be creamy mycelium everywhere though

The weather was far from optimal for woodlovers imo. It was way too dry and very warm still for the time of year.

The only reason we've had any harvest at all is I've been watering the patches every single night.

Today we finally have some rain and the temps are going to drop too. Unfortunately, more drought after that so looks like I'll be hosing a lot more to hopefully get another flush (or two).

With outdoor beds, does the mycelium need to be showing on the surface to get fruits or will they just poke up through the wood chips? My bed has mycelium just under the top layer of chips with very little showing through the top.

Here the season will end sooner than it starts, it seems. Litle to no rain and early temp drops dangerously close to 0. Oh well.

Hey guys!

I'm just worried so let me ask something real quick: If my Azurescens and Cyanescens patches haven't shown ANY pins yet (but the mycelium looks nice and healthy, some parts above the surface, webbing the top soil layer, while at other parts, it is completely hidden) then is there no chance of fruit growth this year? Or is it still early enough in the woodlovers' season?

Thanks in advance! This is my first ever wood lovers growth, and I've prepared the patches in March this year, following all the careful advice, instructions and guides all over the web, and especially the Shroomery! So I am really excited: This would also be the first time of seeing a wood-lover psilocybe in person, which would be really amazing and exciting for me. :smile:

This patch didn’t pin until December 19 last winter, well after good hard frosts.
I think it depends on the climate where you are, none of my patches are pinning yet, they will. Here they rarely show anything until temps drop well in the 30s, it could have more to do with getting the soil resaturated after the very dry summers we have. We’ve had an inch and a half or rain this fall, but under the rhododendrons and below the top couple inches of soil is still bone dry. You got time, These critters teach you patience, unless you’re Tweeq!🤣god damn man, that’s shit is amazing!

Trying something new this fall. I made sweater boxes of different woodlovers last summer(2022) hoping to fruit them in the greenhouse last winter without success. So I just left them sit unopen on the shelves through the summer to dry out and see how hot and dry they could get. I had noted 110°f in the greenhouse, and I never even checked when the outside temps got up to 105°, so I imagine it got well above 110.

Once our outside temps dropped I began rehydrating them, and they sure are alive. My hope is that they got to experience like a full year and got to eat up the wood so hoping for fruits if any of that stuff matters to them. If I don’t get anything at least I know they can tolerate very high temps, and I hope that gives others relief when they worry about their patches drying out and getting too hot. I imagine if I left them any more hydrated they would have been infected from gnats and molds. These are far from axenic.

There is hope after all, then!
I'll continue going to the patches every couple of days and misting with a mist bottle until the top is nice and wet, hopefully the mycelium will stay healthy and prompted for fruiting when the time finally comes!

That experiment proves just how resilient wood lover mycelium really is, and it absolutely saves worries from all the people who were wondering just how much they can neglect a patch in dry weather!

Of course keeping it wet should help with colonization, but just the sheer strength of survival that mycelium has VS the elements is astonishing. :shocked:

I'll post updates of my patches should anything fancy happen!!

Been taking huge square blocks of concrete and pressing down on the outside colonies during dry pathces. This will create enough microclimate that the aggressive mycelium like azur will colonize both the bottom of the square rock itself, but also any food/filler that isbetween the rock square and itself.

basically like stamping the ground with a huge heavy stamp, in a square.

when i want to move on a to a new ground, i case the new growth with some coir and wood, patches of mosso or half-dead/half-alive clutches of grass that I "Case" on top of it.

This has worked very well for me in making already established colonies, build on top of each other or create a surface for them to colonize.

2nd year, autumn is breaking into winter, and STILL NO WOODLOVER FRUITS.

My mycelium is alive, its expanding everywhere, it regrows where the snails and insects get to it.  It shows up obviously traveling beneath the "casing" of the surface of the ground.

We have reached frost nights, so hopefully what I will exprience is that they will fruit very late in the season of where they are geographically

or their fucking not even gonna send up one fruit for 2(2!!!) years
