I don't think they make the bottles with the cool caps anymore tho.

How long do you wait before you’re confident using new plates you poured?
I know you can inoculate your new plates as soon as they cool, but if they got contaminated during pouring that would take a day or two or three to be visible so avoiding initial contams would obviously be a bonus.

If you're germinating spores, id wait a 3 days atleast to be sure any bacteria that may have made it in germinates first, but if you're transferring to it, fuckit just keep the original culture.
Contams getting in during a pour is pretty damn rare ime, and it's something I've never given any concern towards

Nah, there are limits to the madness.

Beyond 120 and the glass is too thin for my liking.

Green stuff showed up in the middle of and underneath mycelium after about 10 days. So sneaky.

Was that bottom sector's strained looking growth a warning sign?

Edit: Could have been between 10-14 days

That bottom section is mold 100%

Oh, shit.

Now I'm fucked. I wonder what else I have that's mold. All my plates have white growth of some kind on them. I'm sure some of it is mushroom mycelium, but what else?

What about these?

I don’t believe that is mold at all and not sure how tryp is claiming 100%.  Anyway, those plates all look like funky germ plates with the exception of 3 which looks like a good xfer that could be used after 1-2 more xfers.

It’s bruising. There’s likely something riding along that it doesn’t like.  Doesn’t mean the bottom section is mold 100%.  I wouldn’t use that plate either way.

The right side of #1 has been the fastest growth by far. On 07/28 I took a wedge and put it to grain as a gamble. Today it looks like this.

I also transferred another piece of it to another plate where it continues to grow quickly but is still translucent like it is on the germ plate (and not easily photographable). Should I take another transfer from the germ plate or transfer the T1 to a T2?

I've never seen one part of a culture show concentric rings while the rest grows uniform. Especially not with a clear separation between the two.

Usually two myc cultures will merge, not show a clear gap between them.

All that being said, you're the tc and I've been on a hiatus for a few years.

21°C at night and up to 26°C in the late afternoon. My apartment gets a lot of sun and is on the top floor and the A/C can't keep up so I night cycle it (make it really cold at night so it has a head start against the sun).
