Inoculated 10 jars.
Only 2 germinated.
1 molded out.

Wish me luck with the last one. I really need to take a print from this variety.

The safest way to fruit it is?
Ziplock i guess?

I planned to spawn it to bulk in a nano shoebox but i better forget about that i think.

If you happen grow a fruit on an agar plate or BRF puck-in-a-jar agar alternative... Is that suggestive of favorable genetics? Is it worth cloning? Or is it just a curiosity?

It shows that the genetics are usually favorable because it is willing to pin in sub optimal conditions. It's worth cloning and growing out. Especially since you know it is already a fruiting culture. Plus it's guaranteed sterile.

This grow has been cursed from the beginning.

Took two weeks until first sign of growth.

But i suspect my syringe preparation wasn't on point.

My current batch of 10 jars all show mycelium after 4 days.

I'm not saying your germination will have more success, I'm saying you'll have no issues with mold.
Steaming brf jars works i'd say 80% of the time if done right. But a PC is almost 100% mold free unless you use a syringe with mold spore in it.
Just food for thought. You certainly don't NEED a PC to do BRF but it would help you out a lot.

Yes, i know. A decent pc is on top of my wish list.

But i live in Europe and don't do EBay so it'll stay just a wish forever.

Thanks @Way. I'll plop some tissue into LC and onto agar. Oh that reminds me, I gotta make another batch of plates...

So here’s an update on my situation. Are these the “blobs” I hear so much about that can come from PE? Or did I just create something horrible? Took the advice here and put the lid back on them and left them alone (until just now to take photos)

Are these side pins/blobs? And what should I do about them?

Really hoping somebody here can help me figure out what's going on this is my second or third tub p. E. And the first two did okay but we're basically entirely side pins but I got a pretty good amount in the end and then this tub started off looking fantastic I couldn't have asked for a better pin set. I figured I would just let it be and let it do its thing but today when I came to check on it it seems like it's about to abort probably half of them and I don't understand why? It doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it,? It literally just seems like all the sudden is giving up on all these baby pins, they also have seem to possibly stall as they've been the same size for about 24 hours the only one that has been growing is this weird long skinny one in the dead center that grew to the top of the tub within the first 24 hours of the pin set.. what the hell is going on and how do I get these things to stop aborting

Why do you feel like they’re aborting?

I dont think this is totally accurate. Long as you steam long enough it is sterile, and there aren't levels of sterility, its the same however you get there. Commercial grows and such use steam for large volumes of grains running about 8 hours a cycle.

Unless made from invitro fruits, the Spore syringe always has some amount of contams. Putting filters and sterile tek aside; The syringe is where contams most likely come from in this case. The better you get at cleaner syringe making and use less Spore solution the less you see contam with direct mss. essentially you're playing with odds for clean or dirty inoculations, how much you use vs how many ppm of contam is present.

I think your conclusion is a reasonable misconception. if you get a pc after several runs, you're just making less mistakes.

Just wanted to point out there are levels of sterility technically.

That being said, steaming a .5 pint jar for 90 minutes is more than sufficient.

I even steam them for 120 minutes.

That's why i think it was the print's fault or my syringe preparation.

Probably a really noob question;

But has anyone ever just buried unbroken up BRF cakes in coir in shoeboxes?

Somewhere in between spawning it to bulk and spawning them as cakes?

Is there any con to doing this?

I haven't personally. I've seen it done with good results though. Go for it Broski. Pack in the sides and do a small topping layer.

I’ve had this thought about bacterial spawn, placing a quart jar into a flower pot and filling it up with coir

Yes and it works very well. In my opinion much better than breaking them up. Just lay out a couple inches of coir, pack the cakes in like jars in the case they came in (touching at the edges) and then cover with another inch of coir. Big beautiful flushes.

I know there is a nice picture of that around here too from a TC doing it, just turning up shit when I search. I'll probably try it next brf to bulk grow to compare.
