"This is about what is appropriate to teach to children and what is not."

Yes, that's true! So why not teach them real history instead of the history skewed to fit what people wished happened? Why not teach more diversity about gay people and effeminate boys and butch types women? Why change the history books and omit VERY important info? Why erect statues glorifying assholes that were absolutely the most racist fucks alive and in positions of power? Why teach kids shit like a POV that the parents religious and other preferences are the only way and if they don't like it they can leave or get sent to a boarding school, or beat, or any other heinous acts? Why the fuck do home schooled kids turn out to be socially awkward a lot of the time due to parents "teachings" that are usually, if not always, some religious based horse shit ?(indoctrination/mind control) Why are some schools (FUCKING self proclaimed RELIGIOUS schools!!!)allowed to not allow blacks in (ie: the one fuck faced pence's wife works for) Shall I go on?

Hey Rex - no offense, but you're drunk. Go home.

No but seriously I'm pretty sure you just went off on a rant for the sake of ranting and I don't think anything you posted actually has much to do with me or CRT.

We can't change the past and how the education system has failed up until now. But let's not make it worse by indoctrinating children with even more toxic crap, mmmkay?

Not to do with you, but the CRT. It does because racism in the system is taught to kids subversively. It's so ingrained within the system(s) that no one really pays attention to it and thinks the history books that are taught to children (and college students) are the one true account(s) of actual history, which they are not. Why is that OK? It's great you admit that the kids have been taught "toxic crap". It shows you know damn good and well there's systemic horsehit taught to glean all the little asshole dictator types for the elite clubs they want them in to do their bidding, but only mostly private school and money connected types. You NEVER see a "common man" type get in the white house. You might see on as a governor or some other lower level political person, but that position and those places up high are for very procured and connected people to keep things a certain way. I'm just glad I don't have kids right now, fuck this shit! I don't blame parent s for freaking out but they do need to do more research into shit before looking like dumbasses to people. Actually, they probably don't give a fuck what they look like obviously.

They tought me about communism and socialism in college even had to read communist and socialist writings.
I guess I don't know why everyone is so worried their kids are too stupid to be exposed to all sorts of ideas and remain able to think critically.
Regardless all CRT is saying is that minorities have disadvantages that are built into american society. And sure some minorities will do well and not really experience as many disadvantages or barriers but many will.

The fact that there's people out there actively seeking out the "candace owens" opinions on CRT is a big reason CRT should be taught in the first place.

That sure beats "you're a big fat poo poo head".

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

I think I know exactly why a certain subset of the population believes that their kids should be too stupid to be exposed to all sorts of ideas, and that critical thinking is bad.

Alright, I gotta get back to work. Wasted too much time here today.

Don't worry pals, I'll be back later to address your concerns about how mean ol' chopstick posted a video that hurt everyone's feelings.

They should really change the name of this forum from "Political Discussion" to "Attack anyone who dares post an opinion that differs from the local consensus." Would be more accurate.

Not that I mind, I actually enjoy being the underdog in "debates" like this.

Boo hoo? You got called out on your obvious cognitive bias and now you’re the victim? We all had to endure that bullshit. Irony? Yeah, tons of it. We wanted some intellectual honesty and the best you have is “you guys are mean to me.”

If you want to prove that CRT doesn’t work then bring some fucking evidence. Stop wagging your jaw. It would be a breath of fresh air for everybody here.

For the record, had you provided information that said this is the benefit of CRT and here are the negative consequences of CRT you likely would have been taken quite seriously.

Did I claim to be a victim? I specifically said that I enjoy it. I am merely pointing out the trend as this has been the trend on the political forum in particular for some time now (anyone who disagrees with the hivemind on certain issues gets attacked en masse.) But it's okay, because it's something I enjoy, so it's really not a problem for me. The point is not to claim to be a victim, but to point this out for no other reason than that I find it amusing. And it amuses me, trust me.

My evidence is the perfectly valid opinions expressed in said video I posted. As I pointed out many times, the fact that I even posted a video in the first place was instead used to attack my position (including by you) rather than actually having anything that could remotely be called a discussion about the points brought up therein, not that I expected it to turn out all that differently. I was not attacked based on the substance of the video, but on the fact that I even posted a video - which is honestly just plain silly. It's a way of not only ignoring the points brought up, but painting me as the villain for daring to have the audacity to even post a video you'd disagree with in the first place.

As for your last point, let's be real here - I'm not going to be taken seriously by very many people here in any case regardless of what evidence I post (evidence which apparently has to be first approved by the local hivemind), so it's simply not something I can expect from this forum. As I can't expect to be taken seriously in the first place, there is little benefit to going out of my way to post evidence that you might have a 1% chance of listening to, but probably won't regardless. So really I think I'm fine with posting whatever form of evidence I damn well please. I don't need you or anyone else here to give me the rubber stamp of approval on what I decide to use to back up an argument I might make.

The only way I would be taken seriously is if I were to just post something that agrees with your position (and others here) from the outset. Only then would I be taken "seriously", but that wouldn't even be worth it because then this chat just goes back to being an echo chamber with no dissenting opinions again. And where is the fun in that?

In conclusion, I don't give a flying eff whether you or anyone else takes me seriously or not and I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to bend over backwards just to comply with your version of whatever you think reality is, and whatever you think counts as suitable "evidence" just for you.

Public schools need to get out of the business of teaching any political and historic classes. The curriculum should remain much more academic in nature. If you want your child to study religion, they attend Sunday school and that's OUTSIDE of the public school system.

I feel the same way when it comes to public statues and monuments, tear it all down. The public sector should have as much of a blank slate as possible.

Yep, stay out of politics, current events and history in the public school system. Focus on reading, writing, technology, math, sciences, foreign languages and other academic studies. Make it so there's no molding of minds outside of strict academic study, no more arguments about history, religion or cultural diversity programs. Public education needs to be as blank of a slate as possible, all other studies should be optional and outside of public education.

That’s part of it, but CRT takes it down a rabbit hole. It applies to society and values, so concepts like objectivity or neutrality become “White”.

Here’s a pretty dry, but good breakdown of it drawing from critical race theorists work.

Do you think there’s a value to learning history? If so, how do you propose people learn about it?

How do you explain reading, writing, technology, math, science, or a foreign language without knowing the history of it? This mostly applies to reading, writing, and foreign languages. Unless you are suggesting that schools only allow learning from a dictionary, or suitably context-less interactions from a story that could happen at any time.

I guess at least people will stop misunderstanding "wherefore art thou Romeo" when it becomes "I wish we could procreate, male from rival social unit".

Yes, there's value, but who makes the interruption and could that come at someone's expense?  Fair and balanced would be wonderful, yet who can really determine fair and balanced?

Recent history fucking happened and is well documented. It's no more up for debate than our current understanding of chemistry for fuck's sake. If you want academics in school then history is part of it, even if the events within cause people butthurt. Politics rules what IS and what CAN happen in the future, there is no politics to the past because it already took place, and we know a lot about the previous few hundred years. People either accept the past or they don't, doesn't mean we get to cater to butthurt folks by providing a cushy variation of history.

I do get what you're saying because even sciences have a cultural context to it, but make it as clean of a slate as possible. It's never going to be completely clean, but it's better than wrestling in the mud with history and political issues in the public schools.

So you have no issue with the fashion US history has been taught in the vast majority of public schools in the past 70 years?

You also have no issue with the fashion political issues have been taught in public schools in rural areas in the US the past 70 years?

You're assuming the truth has and will be told by our educators when clearly that hasn't been the case in many instances. Why do you naively make that assumption?

How?

For example, reading. What can students read? Should schools teach reading past literal my first ABCs level? Even children's books have morals and cultural context. Otherwise, any book is gonna have new cultural concepts. That's kinda the whole point of books: sharing of viewpoints. Kills writing, too.

The entire existence of foreign languages is political.

You're kind of limited to...math. Essentially pure numbers. Everything else has a cultural "why?" behind it.

I think you'd be better off with the opposite approach. Give students every viewpoint you can. Yeah, you might not have all of them, but your job as a teacher isn't to moderate what your students are exposed to, but to find more things to expose them to. I was a little edgelord shit and read quite a bit of mein kampf in middle school. It was weird. Still, a learning experience. Hitler was not a good writer.

In some of those viewpoints, white people are the bad guys. That's kinda what CRT is. Exposure to those viewpoints. It's not about blaming white people, it's just a turn as the bond villain. Hopefully you learn from it, just like any other mistake.

Well, fair and balanced would be the ideal educational environment when it comes to politics and history being taught in schools, yet that hasn't been the case. Why not let private schools, parents and other options fill that role for students?  Public schools have a hard enough time teaching basic subjects, never mind conservative or liberal values.
