I noticed it about a year before the election, but I didn't really know much about Trump prior to that, so it could have been progressing for long before then.

Most certainly.  Recently, he's been having a harder time finding his words.  It's eerily similar to what my mom went through toward the end.

Interesting. I can't stand his speech mannerisms and only pick up random sound bites now and again but have not noticed any changes.

Have to say what I hear is Trump deliberately overpronouncing Hindi words, for rethorical effect. He does it all the time - the aim is to make media replay these clips (or "fact check" claims which are a bit off). What Indian people see in this clip is Trump making effort to speak their language which is kind of funny in an endearing way. You know my background and this is exactly how we received foreign leaders butchering the language - the worse the better! But hey, we all perceive what we see differently!

Watch a video of him being interviewed in the 90s . The difference is shocking . Theres allot more than aging going on .

For what it is worth: Scott Adams had a one on one meeting with Trump in the WH last year. He (SA) said afterwards that Trump in person presents as a very smart, witty and relatable person with great listening skills and perfect control of his faculties. He (SA) said that Trump made him feel completely comfortable in an instant and this feeling carried through the whole meeting. So, in this version of reality, the whole retard speech (which I cannot stand) is just a tool of persuasion. Most people are dumb so to communicate with them effectively one needs to speak slow, using simple language, visual analogies and repetitions. One real-life test - immune to political bias - would be whether someone using these tricks has managed to persuade people to do something - like for example vote for him.

I am not trying to convince you or anything - this is just an interesting alternative view.

Allot of people  voted for trump because they thought that was the best thing that could happen for them after suffering through a black president for 8 years . Others just really really thought tariffs were a good idea , they were all wrong though .

And some who detested Clinton, wanted tighter border control, thought Trump would be good for the economy, were fed up with the establishment - people had their reasons. What I am emphasising is that, whatever Trump's message, it needed to be effectively communicated to the prospective voters and he seems to have nailed it.

I think we are all in confirmation bias all the time. The only way to work out what is real is to track the predictive performance of different theories. In this particular case we have a guy who in 2016 was either a demented idiot or a clever operator behind a public personality engineered to achieve a particular goal (first GOP nomination and then electorate college win). Now, which version of reality does the way events have unfolded support?
