A comparison between grain water and brf. Plates.
I just thought I would share this...

9/21 to 9/25
6 grams brf.
9 grams telephone agar
500 ml. water

9/21 to 9/25
10 grams telephone agar
500ml. grain water from oats

This is a sample of what most of my grain water plates look like at seven days..

CREDITS TO MICELIO

Hopefully he's cool with me stealing this

Idk...I usually use grain water right away, but I would say in the fridge it would probably last for a while...at least a week or 2

I found a seemingly good/cheap HEPA filter but the specs it lists are 1.0 resistance at 559 cfm. Seems awfully low compared to all the writeups. Is this a problem/will it work?

I was always under the impression that any resistance value of 1 or more is good.

yeah that part seemed normal to me, it was more the low cfm that seemed abnormal. Based on some threads I'm looking at it sounds like it might be fine but I'm still not totally sure.

Although you want it to be on thick plates and helps to refrigerate otherwise they may fruit and/or dry out

What's a CFM?

Kidding... I've NO idea what the beast releases, but I dont feel a breeze and all is well... I'd imagine the size is going to play a part as well, needing more CFM to push a larger filter at the same rate of flow... IDK, My lighter blows at nearly 90 1" out, and 45 at 3"... Works GREAT

Poured 60, used 40... 5 LC also

I made the Grain water agar, I went 50/50 and it SUXXXXXX. I transferred from beautiful mycelium, and the new plates have grown but the mycelium is very faint. Should I have used more or less grain water? WTH

Thin weak growth means too little nutes. Thick slow growth means heavy on nutes or hard agar.

You can freeze your unused grain water indefinietely. in the fridge it will start to turn eventually, just slowly.

So here's what I got going in my dishes at the moment:

Those are second round transfers from a 6+ months old print of GT that I had laying around.
Pictures are two weaks old after transfer. Which ones would you recommend to keep transferring from?
I'm not really lokking for an isolate, just some healthy mycellium to grow with. Any input is appreciated.

plate 1 - 9-12 o clock
plate 2 - 7-3 o clock
plate 6 - 12-3 o clock
plate 7 - 9 o clock
There's more but that's a good starting point

Interesting. Would’ve gone more for plates 8-10 but I see what you’re pointing at. Round and uniform growth. I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks

I finally got some powdered agar instead of this flaky shit that I had before. I think I may have used too much agar tho because the myc is not jumping off the transfer piece. What sucks is I only need about 6 of these “plates” at a time and I have to guess the ingredients measurements.

Mycellium doesnt like certain colours, when I use blue food colouring it stalls.  Must be something in there it doesnt like.
