this isn't mushroom cultivation, but ill post anyway.  i've been feeding this fig tree spent composted cube compost from last year(poo/coir/grains turned every few days and watered.)
plot is surrounded by cement, and the girl who lived here before said the tree hadn't grown in past 2 years because the roots where at the soil barrier. this is how it looked last year this time

this is today.  spent substrate pile is on the right. don't know much about plants or trees but looks like its doing pretty well

I know certain types of trich promote and stimulate plant root growth. I take all my spent subs and give them to my girl. She puts them in garbage bags and leaves them out behind the garage by the garden until she's ready to use them and then mixes the triched out spent subs in the garden soil. The size of our tomato and tomatillo plants last year from doing this was just unreal. Huge. Our strawberry plants were just put in last year and they are already fairly large and have ripe fruits already as of a few days ago. Some farmers actually buy trich just for this purpose...

i know a guy who worked on a tobacco farm in cuba, and said a lot of the agricultural research money goes to finding and maintaining strains of trich to help the plant fend off pathogens that can ruin crops in high humidity places like cuba since they grow a lot of it,and their soil and environment are apparently perfect for things that cause root rot too.

I'm not sure if trich is the only thing at work here though, lot of nutrients too. I'm in the middle of the hood, so the only way people can grow gardens is raised beds because the soil quality is so bad.

Old subs make awesome compost, I had like a two foot tall dandelion growing out of my sub pile

In other news, I used spent substrate as a medium for my tobacco plants and the ones I gave it to all died...
They were babies though, I think some competing mold forced them out.

ND I love those shrooms, and Tim that is one of the best canopies I've seen

PE shroom without a stem. This grew on a tray that barely grew any pins, the worst MS culture I've ever grown.

First flush from my first large tub.  (Regular mono size footprint, but it's a shortie, running it in my greenhouse)

And a question:  let's say you happen to be a tardbucket and forgot a liner, and had to pull the sub out to harvest the ridiculous side grows...

Is there anything such a person could do in order to prevent side pins on second flush?  Cover in plastic wrap or anything?

Asking for a friend.  I would never do such a silly thing.
