Only mediocre minds spend so much time worrying if their words will piss someone off.

There are no sticks and stones on the internet.

The one that is pissed of by a simple exchange of views is the one that deep inside has a gap in his beliefs and due to mostly social and culture reasons is afraid to show it. Nobody is perfect, but some people are honest, with their self first and consequently with others.

What's with all this "attack" nonsense?

You know what really sucks... it sucks when morons identify themselves with a group. It sucks further when these morons get up on their soapboxes and proceed to dispense their inaccurate views of "their" own group.

The way I understand it, Mr Mushrooms is saying that whoever wrote the article is incorrect. Swami wrongly generalizes the article as universal Christian ideology. There is a consensus among everyone here that the article is wrong. Therefore, the discussion should have been over in the first page. The problem is that Swami insists on pigeonholing every christian. See Infidel God's post about God hates Fags.

Real Christians - you know, the followers of Jesus - shouldn't need to adhere to literal interpretations of 2,000 year old metaphors. They also probably wouldn't need to form a support group that meets once a week to "celebrate" (read: brainwash themselves with blinding dogma) some "higher power" (read: something to focus on, so that they can continue ignore their own insecurities).

But yeah... Swami is such a hatemongerer...

*calls up another wambulance*

The way I see it, it's not a "support group". Think of it like this:

If I am left on my own to do the Christian thing, I will get sucked up into the "world" because that is all I am dealing with when I am out and about. I get lost and confused, sometimes. When I meet with other Christians, it's like getting grounded in a way.

We can talk about what we run into, out there, and how we handle it, and how Jesus would handle it. Me, on my own, would probably be an uncaring bitch. I can get sucked up into the world and it's beliefs, which are usually "do unto others before they do unto you".

But if I talk to other Christians, and they share with me how they handle things, based on their beliefs, I can go back into the world with a renewed outlook into how I am going to handle things, as a Christian.

And what's so bad about that, really?

I understand your point. But just because people don't abide by your religious standards doesn't make them bad people nor bad christians.

In the past I felt the same as you did. I made several posts mocking Religious people. Then I was forced to examine why I was doing it. I identified some rational motives like my displeasure with our President pushing his religious agenda, but other than that, my motives were largely irrational. It is enough that I decide for myself what to believe. I no longer need to make fun of non-believers. I also pondered over the religious people in my life. They are kind people and their beliefs seem to work for them. Why should I ever try to make them think otherwise?

Motives shmotives...

When I finally understood the teachings of the Fightin' Jesus... I realized that I was not a Christian. Basically, I was a Kierkegaardian Christian that didn't puss out when it came to choosing the ultimate faith - faith in self.

If one needs a certain image of someone to whom he/she can mirror all hers/his hopes and fears then that's ok. Other people like you and me don't need that. That doesn't mean though that we must make fun of other people feelings.

Also, there is another religion that is a lot like Pantheism but because of the same fact, that most people need something tangible to encourage and help them believe, they hace created a Polytheism based Pantheistic belief system.

What I wanted to say was that it isn't only christians that have that need, but the vast majority of the people at the certain time (these things are subject to age in my opinion).

Forgot something....
....In Greek,
Poly means "many"
Theos means "god"
Poly-theism : a "many god" religion
