If you say it comes from the unconscious portions then how do you know it comes from the brain/mind?
You can only be sure of something if your conscious of it

I reckon we're talking about different things when we say 'intuition' anyway, the intiuition your probly referring to is probly from subconscious mental movements :shrug:

Well I don't know anything for sure unlike you but the study of the brain shows that parts of the functioning of the brain are not usually available to the conscious mind.

Communication between people is an excellent example of the use of intuition. Our inability to see facial expressions, body language, voice tone, and speech rhythm and use them to intuit meaning explains a good chunk of miscommunication on the net IMO. But here at the shroomery I've noticed this is starting to be compensated for :tomatoface:

I feel that alcohol inhibits real introspection and, call it higher thought.  Perhaps it can provide some altered state in which one is experiencing a different mode of thought.  But this is mostly euphoric and not necessarily novel in an intellectual way, IME.  Then when you wake up...  It feels like a home run swing to the back of your head.  That, I must say, feels like damage.:uhoh:

I use Jung's model of Thinking, Feeling, Sensing, Intuiting. The first two are on one continuum, the latter two are on a continuum.

The Ego is the centerpoint of the conscious mind, which is comprised of data from these four sources. Individuation aims at a wholeness which is the result of balancing our inferior and superior functions. Most everybody has fairly serious imbalances. For example: I'm an INTP (Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving) type. Our typology has Feeling as its Inferior (4th)  Function. Our strongest function is Thinking, but because we're Introverted, we apply Thinking to our inner world.  Intuition in our case is the secondary function, but my type extraverts Intuition. Practically speaking, we might not notice what you're wearing (Sensing is out tertiary function), but we will get an immediate perception of what kind of person you are. It's not the Feeling function, but the 'hunch' function. It evaluates a general character, partly through input by the other functions, but it contributes its own characteristic 'leap,' or as Jung said, the ability to "see around corners."

Affirming Intuition is attempted by gamblers, true, but unlike Thinking and Sensing, it cannot be applied by the Thinking function any more than people can decide their Feelings using the Thinking function. One can suppress Feelings with Thinking, or rationalize away feelings, but this not an accurate assessment of an event, it is a classic defense mechanism employed to handle one's Inferior Function, where one is most weak. But that is a kind of internal internecine warfare between psychic functions. Thus, someone who overly stresses the rational mind to extremes, MUST by nature be equally deficient in one or more of the other functions according to Jung's theory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which is the practical application of his theories.

Sensing and Intuition are 'perceiving' functions, whereas Thinking and Feeling are 'judging' functions. It is fascinating when one realizes that the different people who post here are all determined to a significant degree by their typology. Professions are populated, statistically, by the various types. The MBTI is tremendously useful for career choices, but it is also useful in helping one to find a partner, and so pre-marriage counseling often uses it. It can help one decide whether the expression "Birds of a feather flock together," or "Opposites attract," is best fit for trying to live with a different typology. Once upon a time Philosophy & Spirituality contained both this form as well as the Mysticism & Paranormal forum. The division can be seen as characteristic Intuitive Feeling types over there (INFP, ENFP, INFJ, ENFJ), and several Sensing Thinking types which dominate this forum (ISTP, ESTP, ISTJ, and ESTJ). The remaining types might move in both circles, skewed in interesting ways. I am usually confronted on my Introverted Intuition, even though my Thinking can be seen as logical - except when the logic is aimed at purely Introverted Intuition because if it is your Inferior function, it will not be understood the same way, and will appear to be incomplete Thinking.

To the Sensate Thinkers, Intuition looks ephemeral, unsubstantial, fuzzy. The Intuitive types see Sensate Thinkers as concrete, rigid and completely polarized (black-white, 0,1). As The Moody Blues put it, it's 'A Question of Balance.'

This is something pretty weird that happened to me the other day. I was going to get my student loan but i lost my photo ID. I wen't to there office and asked if they would let me submit an afidavid(a signed doc by a professional swearing they know who you are) but they never heard of it and iddnt really care to help me. I left kinda pissed off, beuracracies are the personification of evil IMO. anyway I hop on the elivator, i accdiently went up instead of down, on the top floor a guy in a suit walks on. OK this is weird.. i got the urge to ask him if hes ever heard of an afidavid, theres no real reason for me to tell to talk to this random guy. I just felt like I should do it.
OK he says ya ya iv heard of that for sure they should accept on of those.. hes like follow me. guy brings me to the president of the registrar office and hooks me up with an appointment. turns out the dude on the elivator was the PRESIDENT OF THE WHOLE UNIVERSITY. I got a 1000 cash advance on my loan and the dude even scrapped the math class i failed last semester.
So 3 strange coincidence.. #1 i went the wrong direction o nthe elevator which iv never really done before. #2 VP walks on.. #3 I get the urge to rant about it to him.
alot of weird shit happens to me these days the most weird is I always have the same thoughts as other people pop into my head at the exact same time.. seriously

Don't mind Icelander. Poor man had his Intuition removed some years back. It's one of those unrecognized disabilities. But, like a blind man's hearing, his sarcasm can slice right through a blacksmith's anvil.  :devil: 
Synchronicities happen all the time. Tripping opens one's eyes to that, and if you begin to hunger for them, one is usually 'graced' with a period of one's life where they come out of the sky like the Perseid meteor shower instead of the usual rare event.
