Who here believes in intuitive knowledge?
    #11882143 -

By intuitive knowledge, I mean valid knowledge which is arrived at primarily by spontaneous realization, "gut feeling," etcetera, and only secondarily (or not at all) by inductive or deductive reasoning.
Do you believe that intuitive knowledge has validity?
You may choose only one

Yeah this happens. It isn't as important as say for instance the logic and science behind a computer but I have gut feelings about certain things and I tend to go with them because I trust these feelings. The reason I trust them is because I don't like to second guess myself if it isn't something super important. Sometimes gut feelings fuck up but usually not in a terrible way.

Personally I have a pretty strong belief in the power of intuitive knowledge.

Almost all of my best ideas have been the result of fleshing out what started as a powerful, but vague and irrational, intuitive realization.

I believe intuitive knowledge is logical but that logic is worked out in the sub conscious realms and then delivered to the conscious mind as an "ah ha!"

We go through this at least once a year.

Vegas exists because people's hunches are usually right or usually wrong or totally irrelevant?

Intuition as subconscious processing/memory accessing is a necessary component of any champion in any sport, but there is nothing mystical or unexplainable about it.

It depends on what the intuition is about.

"My intuition says that he's a bad person" can be based on all the slight movements and micro-expressions the person makes.  These are generally picked up subconsciously, which is why one doesn't know why one feels this.

Well, intuition in the sense of: "My intuition tells me Allah is the true one and only god." That's a different story.  That's likely complete delusion.

My view is that we *do* have intuitive ideas about things ranging from logic to morality.  But I also think that a lot of our intuitive ideas/knowledge are flawed and/or not applicable to every situation.  So, I think that our intuitive knowledge (whatever the contents of it), need to be constantly checked against formal reasoning.

So for me, I couldn't really choose any of those options because I agree we may have a large amount of intuitive ideas, but it also is true that we need to figure out which ones are justified and which ones aren't.

I don't know if I'd say I believe in intuitive "knowledge" per se, but I do believe intuition can make an important contribution to one's epistemology.

The fact that intuition works better than random chance probably enables people's tendency to believe crazy shit.

Before starting the journey of chasing information...  I came to specific realizations under the influence of psilocybin that proved to completely coincide with what I would call previously unknown elements of the collective knowledge base.  Yes.

For the Record, I believe there is a Record.

Mostly...  Of entirely more data stored than is able to be processed at one time by the brain...  Stored in the brain!  Or mind?  This cataloging of direct sensory and extra sensory experience builds on itself and grows itself as we experience a relatively small bandwidth during each moment it streams in.  It is rich content that begs(*) to be ordered or structured.  Linked or stacked.  Unified.  Tree or Pyramid...  One from many.

It seems to be bigger...  Almost pattern recognition-like qualities of info.  Huge sweeping distinctions that span the entire expression of life on this planet and continue into the cosmos.  Shapes.  Geometry.  Complex emotional signatures.  Foundational elements.

(*)I'm sure the content doesn't actually beg... :awesomenod:

yeah it seems like intuition is natures way of dealing with information overload

Theres timeless knowledge inherent in Being that can be acessed in order to understand the universe/yourself

Our usual knowledge deals with objects, but this knowledge is closer, more intimate than that, its non dual knowledge, your not knowing/seeing a tangible object thats at some distance, your knowing yourself, seeing in a different way, not with fleshy eyeballs but with pure awareness.

Whilst it may be possible that intuition can represent information actually being passed on from a knowing source, many do not think this is evidencable.

So alternatively we cannot see intuition - the feeling of a person - as knowledge.

Intuition provides opinion. It provides the feeling of appropriateness regarding certain propositions.

It can help a person see knowledge, which is available from objective information, but not obvious enough to see without the cognitive boost provided by said intuition.

Intuition steers our thoughts... overall intuitions steer our thoughts towards ends that aid our survival. Generally this involves providing correct information (though many intuitions also lead to faulty thinking, as anyone will see when studying psychology.. or just looking around at humanity). So sometimes intuition can steer our thoughts towards a proposition and allow us to notice the way that it is true. In this way they can then justify its truth to other people and thus be able to call their thoughts 'knowledge'. The feeling that the thought its true is not enough to make something knowledge, imo

It's easy to see how we all try to fit this idea into our framework of subjective belief. The less evidence the more we see it our way. Of course some find evidence to be only a distraction from that "seeing". See religion and many new age beliefs.

Mine is like this. "Intuition

Intuitive information comes without a searching of the conscious memory or a formulation to be filled by imagination. When we access the intuition, we seem to arrive at an insight by a path from unknown sources directly to the conscious awareness. Wham! Out of nowhere, in no time.

No matter what the precise neurological process, the ability to access and use information from the intuition is extremely valuable in the effective and creative use of the tools of self healing. In relating with others, it's important to realize that your intuition will bring you information about the other and your relationship from under the iceberg.

When your intuition is the source of your words and actions, they are usually much more appropriate and helpful than what thinking or other functions of the conscious mind could muster. What you do and say from the intuition in earnest communication will be meaningful to the other, even though it may not make sense to you."

The iceberg metaphor is that the mind is like an iceberg and the conscious mind is the part that shows above the water with the vast majority below. Intuition accesses this unconscious information and passes it to the conscious mind without the conscious mind knowing where it's come from.

I'd say intuition comes directly from awareness rather than from an outside source, thats why its instantanious

Nice job of picking that post apart and ignoring the main premise (underlined and then explained). The source is still the brain/mind. It's found in the unconscious portions.
