I just steal my wife's cotton wool balls. Does anyone know the reason cotton wool isn't usually mentioned as an air exchange filter or is this just a regional availability thing?

I'll be honest, only recently I've heard of the possibility of cotton wool vs polyfill.
And to be honest,Im not too sure of the viability.Would it actualy protect against contam spores?I don't know how tight the threads are on a microscopic scale...

And I did  at that poor teddy.Way to immasculate the guy!

Cotton wools organic and digestible by bacteria and shit if it gets wet, saying that it will work as a filter material but may be considered risky.

Thanks, I just found the possible answer is that it is hydrophillic i.e. water absorbent.
I never noticed this because I only ever used a thick dab of fibers to separate the inside and outside layers of micropore tape adhesive through jar lid vent holes.
Never had any problems with grain jars but the filter would have had time to dry before the first shake.
I think I'll get some poly just in case!

try googling 'westfalia mail order' and search their website. they're about £30 and good for the price. pretty basic though - they're either fully on or off

The ingredient to look for is isopropyl alchohol also known as isopropanol, or IPA which is a methyl alcohol.

In the UK Rubbing alcohol and Surgical spirit is usually IPA diluted with water to about 70%. Surgical spirit has a bactericide added.

If you need an excuse, tell them your cleaning blood off an axe.

Beat me to it. I found this a few months ago and have been meaning to buy one!

Very cheap, well is around 1/3 of the price of other ones on the market anyway.

Im also going to be drying some jerky untill the mushies come.
