I too have used similar sources to you but I had my perlite and verm delivered as needed garden supplies so got like 50litres of both!

For BRF and grain got from some health store olnine may be same as yours and have to say i soaked the grain but had no scum or dust or anything many others say they get after soaking!!??

As for Jars i use micro-science same people that make mycofarm bags and its over priced on certain items but you can get very tough plastic jars and also cheaper ones (£1 each) that have built in filters!

I too got the PC from Argos and seems fine at the moment, doesnt hold much but for small use its fine.

For spores i just use different spore syringe places from the UK, have used freespores but not guaranteed from contams as its what other people have done in their homes. They are good none the less.

For shrooms growing in wild I have no clue but think only type in UK is the liberty cap and pretty sure these are very hard to grow inside or at home.

Good thread have always wanted one like this.

£30 :-)

Beat me to it. I found this a few months ago and have been meaning to buy one!

Very cheap, well is around 1/3 of the price of other ones on the market anyway.

Im also going to be drying some jerky untill the mushies come.

If you are in the UK, the Tescos' shops sell their own brand of jam in identical shaped and sized jars, at around half the price if I remember right. The Tesco jam jars should be right next to the Bonne Maman jars.

I always buy my perlite and vermiculite from Homebase. It's often in the gardening part (usually the outdoors section).

When I'm doing BRF cakes, I buy Sainsbury's organic brown rice and grind it up with a coffee grinder.

I order my coir bricks online from http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/ - only a couple of days' delivery, and very cheap. The quality of the coir is really very good.

I have seen them jars and have been looking for coco coir supplier. was thinking eBay but your site is 30p cheaper.

Question:

What you do to your lids on those jam jars?
How much spawn you mix with each brick of coir?
Add Coffee?

If so people use coffee grounds? Any particular make?
Or Liquid Coffee? (nescafe?)

Nice going deucedbi9, like the bucket idea.

Data Byte Duce - Microscience is good but very over priced for the stuff, i use it though for myco bags as i want to guarantee some shrooms. He is very quick at delivering the goods.

Also that link has been mentioned in the thread before.

For those that have the Westfalia dehydrator (HERE):

I bought this and have to say looks like a hairdryer in a round box and is very noisy.

How long does it take to dry out mushrooms?
Is the heat on it ok or shall i disable it?

yeah i thought I would buy it as want to dry fruit and make some jerky so will see more than shrooms.

Once seeing it a PC fan in a box is the same at the end of the day.

Anyone buy shrooms from Camden? If so can your remember the price and weight you got for that?

I thought it was around £20 but 30g is a lot for 1 person, thought a normal trip is around 20-25g?

I used just go halves on 1 lot and that had a good effect!

Hey Shroomers

Near the start we spoke about the dehydrator below, basically wanted to know if anyone has recorded a temperature that its throws out?

As some said they took out heating element and others left it. What do you recommend?

Ok so I have had a look around the forums and wondering about Gypsum.

Cant see any UK advice on it really, as far a i know is used in food, for soil and in building. So what type to go for and where to buy in the UK for a reasonable price.

My garden Centre is overpriced, i do have a decorator shop over the road but most of their stuff is plaster with gypsum so cant see this working!

I do have Tesco down the road but haven't looked there yet.

Most of threads on here say to buy drywall, but thats just long and probably more expensive in the UK that USA.

Well i found this stuff for adding to food, cant see it being too different as Calcium Sulfate is safe to consume.

Setting the plaster before makes sense now as i was thinking the cakes would just become plaster cakes. Also a lot of effort as grinding to a powder would be time consuming and you also got other stuff in their too.

Maybe their isnt a difference, only in price as the mushrooms will eat what they can and leave what they cant.

That place gets you on shipping £5.99!! I only wanted 1 bag of gypsum for 85p, so may have to have a look around for a local shop stocking it instead.

I just bought 400g from eBay, although 3 times the price saves me finding it in stores so saves me the effort.

So cant wait to see the difference in fruits as want to try my first monotub, but may be using a shotgun as dont have the time to find a new box any time soon.

Here's a question-how do you guys dry your shroomage?I've been having a real hard time getting them cracker dry for storage, given that I really don't wanna fork out over £100 for a dehydrator..!
Fan drying is great,I can get them as near as in about 24 hours with a fan-I reckon about 90% dry,but that's it.I tried chucking them in a sealed container with some
little silica gel packet dessicants, but that was a disaster.I'm considering opening a load of silica packets, pouring it all in a container and making some sort of shelf,as I can't seem
to find proper amounts of desiccant online.Hope that works-damned annoying!
What do you guys do for yours..?

This link has been placed in this thread already but here it is again:

Cheap Dehydrator

Cant really go wrong for £35 and in 3hrs you will have cracker dry shrooms. I have done a little research and issues with heat is not a proven fact so dont worry about having to break it open.

I;ve had mine for a little while and it great for a quick turn around and no worry of rotting in your jars.

Well up to you but you will need a FC which will probably be a shotgun chamber. This would mean you will be placing your shotgun in the greenhouse cutting air circulation!

Otherwise its just a storage unit/protective covering until you can change it into something useful.

Actually I haven't seen any links for good cheap humidifier people re using for their grows.

There are loads out there starting from around £25 but im clueless to what to look for in a half decent budget one.

With a little more reading I found you will need a ultrasonic humidifier and cool mister. One raises humidity the other air exchange to balance the whole thing out so a rough guess for a cheap Martha Closet would be £100.

I like the misters , they would make your shrooms look like they're growing from some spooky swamp, bit like alice in wonderland and then imagine them when tripping!

For the RTV silicone Poundland do the red stuff and your looking at 1/5 the price you pay on eBay!
