10ml ink refill syringes on eBay UK.
Search for "syringe long needle".
£4.50 for 6 with free P&P

The blunt needles are about 4" long with a large bore.

I like these because I can suck up lumpy mycelium from the very bottom of an LC jar and inoculate deep into a large PF.

I've recycled and pressure cooked some of these several times with no damage.

I would also like to know a good place to get hardwood chips so i can grow some shittake, enoki and such.

Some pet shops sell perfectly sized, clean beech chip bedding for reptiles. This stuff works nicely with Ps.Cyans. but so does the nastiest dirty mixed wood chips from my local tree surgeon for 1/1000th the price.

Can't understand why dehydrators are so expensive.
From what I've seen it's just a warm air flow through some trays. A bit like a gentle hair dryer.
I find just propping up a little cardboard box behind my PC with the warm air from the PSU directed through it works perfectly.

b and q for a massive bag of natural hard wood chips, works fine, mycelluim eats it well  cost ya about a fiver too!

nice thread have to stop growing here in winter in the uK cant get the temps up, too expensive, dormant till summer here !!

The tree surgeon mentioned earlier sold me 3 cubic meters (3000 litres) for £30. I had to borrow a tipper truck from work to get it home!
I thought the B&Q chips were a bit too chunky averaging 25x25x10mm. They were 50 litre bags but I suppose my branch might have sold a different brand to yours.

You might want to make an incubator for the spawn if your house is too cold. All you need is a big polystyrene box like the ones supermarkets throw away and a little reptile heater mat on one of the walls. You should include a thermostat to prevent overheating. Boot sales and junk shops are great for this kind of thing on a limited budget! Once it's warmed up it'll only draw 5-10 watts.
Once your spawn jars or bags are ready, just mix it in your outdoor bed no matter what the weather and keep repeating.
I'm sure the more spawn you put in now, the quicker the colonization will be come springtime and the bigger the crop beginning winter next year.

I can't wait till my first outdoor flush! 11 months and counting!

If anyone knows where to get a 6500K bulb without me having to order online let me know e.g like a Argos or something that every town has!

Also Silica Gel  same as above.

Try your local tropical fish shop. They sell fluorescent tubes in a variety of colour temps.
In particular, look for the word 'Actinic' indicating strong blue spectra. These are normally used for coral. The pink 'grolux' type are best for aquarium plants.
The actinics can be 6000-7200k or more, it's usually printed on the box.

B&Q sell dessicators of varying types.

I just steal my wife's cotton wool balls. Does anyone know the reason cotton wool isn't usually mentioned as an air exchange filter or is this just a regional availability thing?

Thanks, I just found the possible answer is that it is hydrophillic i.e. water absorbent.
I never noticed this because I only ever used a thick dab of fibers to separate the inside and outside layers of micropore tape adhesive through jar lid vent holes.
Never had any problems with grain jars but the filter would have had time to dry before the first shake.
I think I'll get some poly just in case!

i see this thread is going along nicely, anyone got any idea where i can get some rubbing alcohol from in england? im in the market for some. thanks in advance.

i assume the safe bet is the pharmacy but i could do with an excuse for what its for!

The ingredient to look for is isopropyl alchohol also known as isopropanol, or IPA which is a methyl alcohol.

In the UK Rubbing alcohol and Surgical spirit is usually IPA diluted with water to about 70%. Surgical spirit has a bactericide added.

If you need an excuse, tell them your cleaning blood off an axe.

Try your local oriental supermarket for agar agar. You should be able to make a litre of jelly for less than £5.
It comes in extruded translucent ribbons a bit like noodles and just needs grinding and sieving to make a homogeneous powder just like the overpriced scientific supplies.
If you don't grind it to a powder then the liquid just ends up a bit lumpy but still usable.

There's a seller on eBay UK with GYPSUM POWDER at last!
I never trusted the 'drywall' method.

Thats where I got my gypsum. Only bad part is the shipping. I ordered some sushi supplies and a 2kg box of prawn crackers though and it was sorted :super:

Sorry edited the brewers supply bit out.
At least with brewers Gypsum it is food grade.
