I already corrected that error in that thread. You may go back and read it.

It was a mistake on my part.

so you gave a third option YOU; and this makes it true now?

now that you are convinced that there is only  YOU, Liars, and fools.

what does it take to be you? can i be you?

So I'll amend my statement and say that I'm convinced that only a liar or a fool is 100% sure they know absolultely what the truth is.

does absolute truth have anxieties?

You seem to be confused. I'm not the only person who believes they don't know what truth is 100%. So that third catagory only includes me but is not just me. So you can choose to be in this third catagory.

I don't understand your second statement so you will need to rephrase or be more complete if you want an answer from me.

And let me ask you. do you think you know what the truth is absolutely? any truth? If so how do you know?

2+2=4

This is symbolically representing our world, in the form of numbers.

For example i have 2 tomatoes.  And need 4.

2+x=4

We know that we need 2 more tomatoes for a total of 4.

Yes math proves that we need 2 more tomatoes.  But math is not reality, it is symbolically used to represent reality, in which the tomatoes grow.  But how do you know the tomatoes are even real at all?  How can you prove the tomatoes exist?  You don't, and in math you are automatically assuming the 2 tomatoes are ALWAYS going to be the two tomatoes.

That is why math is not proof of anything.

I suspect this is very close to true.

Given that everyone here agrees that empirical truth is likely impossible to attain, what are the implications of this when someone is using the "burden of proof" argument in a debate?

If the burden is on you yet you know nothing can be proved is this not a paradox?

Therefore I assert that the "burden of proof" rebuttal is useless!?

Maybe "the burden of likeliness"  ? :confused:

If you've ever taken a debate class, this was discussed in like the 1st lecture.

People are bound by time, bias, and a set number of facts

Burden of Proof in a debate means that given the facts, i am probably more right than you are.

Just because you can't for sure know the ultimate truth, doesn't mean you can't try to get there (which is the whole point of debate... to attempt to reach truth via argument)

EDIT: Do you quite understand burden of proof? If you assert something, you have to give enough evidence to make it likely and that I should have to refute it. Burden of proof just is just who has to 'prove' something beyond a reasonable doubt (but in most debates, just 51%)
