If there was no government, wouldn't there be chaos
Everybody running round, setting petrol bombs off?
And if there was no police force, tell me what you'd do
If thirty thousand rioters came running after you?
And who would clean the sewers? Who'd mend my television?
Wouldn't people lay about without some supervision?
Who'd drive the fire engines? Who'd fix my video?
If there were no prisons, well, where would robbers go?

if everyone were "enlightened" they would realize that each individual specializing in what they are best at is beneficial to themselves AND society as a whole.

also they would realize that "tomorrow" has only one m

There is a Zen saying, "Before Enlightenment chop wood carry water, after Enlightenment, chop wood carry water." What’s the difference? The tasks are the same. The need is the same.

the need is the same, however, the need is executed by a third party.  people rely on others to do the "dirty work".  will they be able to perform the tasks to survive?  or only if they are enlightened?

Why would an enligthened people produce trash? It kind of answers itself...

You are right, an enligthened person WOULDN'T have anything to do with the PRODUCTION of trash.

exactly.  humans have engineered trash.  humans call feces trash, urine trash, left overs trash.  earth is supposed to naturally recycle these things to thus in turn grow more food.  the cycle has become broken.

the types of trash might change.

but trash is nothing more than worthless material that is to be disposed of.

every society has had it. some more than others.

The whole point of being enligthened would negate "worthlessness"

The only worthless material would be man-made snythetic material that is harmful to the earth, and does not decompose. Why would an enligthened people have this kind of trash, is all I am trying to say.

Infact, that is the very essence of enligthenment, to "take out the trash," is it not?  :yoda2:

...If everyone was enlightened tomorrow our entire global system of capitalism and consumerism would crumple. And a new system would arise.

We wouldn't necessarily resort to pre-modernization.

Humans have distinct modes of expression and needs of fulfillment. That doesn't mean they are bad, Just that there are bad versions to all of them. Productive being good and counterproductive being bad.

I'd say up until this time, even with such a rapid advancement of technologies, humanity's discoveries have all been counterproductive because of the nature of greed and hatred.

And that would stop if everyone was enlightened tomorrow.

being enlightened does not mean that you would have a use for everything. its more about realizing that there IS  a use for everything.

I only need so much compost for my garden. Once i have satisfied my compost needs with my leftovers, the rest of my food waste is trash to me. I'm willing to give it away because if I keep it is worthless and wasted. So I give it to the mushroom farm down the street because they need a much larger fill of compost material. They have a use for it. To them it is not worthless, it is a valuable resource.

now am i going to drive down to this place every week and deliver my trash to them? no of course not. another enlightened fellow realizes his important role in collecting everyones unwanted trash and delivering it to someone who can put it to use.

Exactly, we are a society of human beings; whether or not our society is enlightened shouldn't be the deciding factor of its stability.
