If I'm not mistaken the DVD "Secret" never mentioned God at all but rather tapping into the "energy of the universe".

Call it what you will. That there are Gods fighting out there sounds very Greek to me but then, when it comes to this thread, much of it is Greek to me...lol

If there is a higher power that is capable of causing even a single cell to exist...then why create other powers to fight with?

I felt a strong feeling of unity last night during my pan-subb trip. Feelings cannot be proven but the oneness out there and within me connecting me to my partner, my goals etc. was very real. The good feelings crept over to the world today and I hope it will continue.

What I experienced can best be described as a friend of ours puts it: A trip is (potentially) a reshuffling of the deck. (Parenthetical insert mine).

Fresh perspective...shaking the tree...(inner) eye opening experience.

A baby is born with spinal bifuda. He must have 'attracted' that affliction as you believe it is a LAW.

A pre-teen girl gets abducted, raped and murdered. Law of Attraction at work again.

When a loved one gets cancer or hit by a drunk driver, make sure to tell them they are to blame.

i always wondered.. what about all the people out there starving and dehydrating to death...

could that have been avoided with more positive thinking?  What does a person who is starving think about other than food?  Isn't that enough to make it appear, according to this "law?"

What does that have to do with the person who is actually starving?  Do they need to "improve" themselves in order to attract improved circumstances?

While I do not doubt the negative impact which irrational thinking has upon our ability to respond effectively to our circumstances, I do not think that "positive" irrationality is less damaging than "negative" irrationality.

What is needed is realistic, rational, responsive thought AND action.  Realistically, we have a certain degree of control over our circumstances.  Recognizing that which IS within our ability to control, as well as the vast amount that is NOT within our control, is realistic thinking.  Taking action to effect changes that are within our realm of impact is the means to positive, personal improvement of our lives AND the lives of others.

Wishing for changes to make themselves happen (via bogus "laws") is ineffective AND irresponsible.  :shrug:

On a sociological rather than philosophical bend....

Who here remembers Harry Chapin of the "Cats in The Cradle" song fame?

He donated part of the take of ticket sales and all the money that was raised from the sales of keepsakes (tapes, tees etc.) sold after all of his concerts to a charity he started to help alleviate world hunger for children. His goal was to eliminate it but he died at an early age in 1981. I don't know if the charity he bagan was continued by his brother Tom or anyone else for that matter. I'll wikipedia Harry later and if I come up with anything I'll let y'all know.

Anyone who knows his "Taxi" song recognizes the line: "Harry, keep the change". My best friend attended a concert and the "Star" himself manned the booth selling the tees etc. where everyone was told what the money was going for. My friend paid him for a tee with a bill beyond the price and said: "Harry, keep the change". His response was: (If the memory of this "old" lady serves me well)

3rd world countries aren't the only places children go to bed hungry. It happens on our continent too as you may already be aware.

There is enough food in the world to feed us all so where does the problem lie? Acts of God which destroy crops? Acts of war which block supplies from getting to civilians? The rut/excuse some people use by giving charity one month of the year and then feel noble the rest of the year? Insufficient awareness?

What do you think?

OK, I'll ask again: What does this have to do with the so-called "Law of attraction"?

It is probably noble to devote oneself to helping other humans to meet their basic needs. A gold star to all those who are involved in such endeavors. :star:

But how does this relate to the "Law" which states that an individual can manipulate their circumstances by focusing their mind on what they want? Are you claiming that the deliberate actions of Harry Chapin are demonstrative of the "Law of Attraction"? How so?

There are more than 6 billion humans in the world right now, and if at least half of them believe in this law and start tweaking their minds and circumstances, I believe there will be a huge traffic jam in the noosphere, with no one getting anything, each wish and hopes getting entangled, oh yes, the earth will move out of the orbit..:nut:

It is better to let nature take its own course, and let our actions and thoughts manipulate our environment.

"The Secret" seriously changed my thought process for the better. I've got some crazy stories on the law of attraction myself. Check out the momozone on youtube.com He really has some amazing stories!!! As for your lucky find... I hope you're good at identifying mushrooms. Myself, I wouldn't trust anything that I didn't grow... but hopefully you attract an amazing spiritual experience with your find. :smile: Happy tripping/attracting!

Shakercee and Veritas- great stuff you're bringing up here. I was truly (veritas!) bringing up a new slant as the laws of attraction seem to be deeper than I realized and I see that until I do more research, I'm not really capable of discussing it across the board.

I brought up Harry Chapin since the subject of hungry children came up. I wikipedia-ed him. It seems his charitable work died with him. I read an interesting point: His widow sued the truck driver Harry's car was hit by after he had a heart attack and she won $12 mil. I hope she gave SOME of it to charity. It said he used to give a THIRD of his pay to the fund!

I guess my motivation was, from my point of view, that it could be that ones thoughts bring good things b/c you get into a positive goal oriented frame of mind that inspires action and creates a cyclical action/reaction of attaining goals. I believe there are energies, if you will, that spur one one when they are on a roll to do what is good for them and others.

I once read that the negative energies will feel more like an annoying repeated tap on the shoulder while the inspiration to do good is more fleeting. More illusive. I keep that in mind when I get an annoying tap that says "eat chocolate" HA!

Feel free to continue the Laws of A subject if you like, I find what you are saying interesting certainly.

Bliss- gr8 to hear positive reports. Changing for the better...however that translates in our lives, that's what were here for right?

I didn't ID those mushrooms, no way. My husband posted shots of them, caps, stems and spore prints to the Shroomery experts who ID-ed them for us. They said they're either active or edible..not poisonous. We took a chance and wowza! I know something was up when hus came into the room where I was typing and said "It's oppressively hot in here!" and left the room. His senses were peeked, I knew cuz it wasn't but warm in here. I knew I was taking off when the colours on the screen became very vivid. That's when the sweet stuff ie: guitar playing started. It's in my journal report if you care to stop in to see it.

Happy tripping/attracting is a lovely salutation! Ditto right back!

I doubt few on the planet had more desire to stay alive than those about to burn to death in the Twin Towers on 9/11. Your desire for a better job or place to live or better relationship or whatever, could not possibly compare to their burning desire(no pun intended - well Ok, maybe...) to live. It had to be many, many magnitudes over any ordinary wish.

And still they died. So first, they 'willed' the planes into the building and then could not muster up enough 'wishosity' to live.

So much for the 'Law of Attraction'.

It would be difficult to say what the energy in those twin towers attracted.

To desire to stay alive out of fear is not a law of attraction as far as I can determine, as one of the prerequisites for this to work would be relaxation and non attachment attitude.
