Read the forum rules. Perhaps then you will have some insight into the nature of this forum and the nature that discussion is bound to exhibit in this forum, coupled with the possibility that you will realize that this type of behavior you are exhibiting in this quotation is best kept at the zoo.

Quote:
You guys have no argument, all your doing is making smart ass remarks, ARGUE WITH ME! Gimme some FACTS give me something besides - "I'm Jesus Christ" shut the fuck up, unless you got something worth saying...

Actually, I had made a valid presentation. You were proposing the idea that there was evidence that Buddha was tripping on mushrooms in this story because of the fact that he stated that he had seen a multitude of gods surrounding him. My statement that I have used psychadelic mushrooms several times and yet have never seen any gods surrounding me implies that psychadelic mushroom usage, in and of itself, does not mean that an individual is going to see a mulitude of gods surrounding them.

You asked who I was. Don't ask a question and tell the person to shut the fuck up when they answer you. If you were honestly interested in presenting an idea for discussion and having it developed by undergoing criticial analysis and dissenting viewpoints, as is the intention of this specific forum, then you would not be resorting to these "tatics" of insulting others and giving commands as to how people are to post.

You ask for facts but you haven't presented anything factual yourself, and the notions you have presented have been subjected to critical analysis. That's the name of the game. You have been "argued" with, and you don't seem to be handling it very well, considering how you've chosen to violate the rules.

I am not the Buddha but, alas, neither are you, and you seem to be using your conception of himself and his nature as some kind of objective substance to support your claims. I seem to recall asking you what "true enlightenment" is, but have not yet seen a response from you in regards to that. How could you propose what the experience of some, technically unknown to us, individual who has attained a state of being that you cannot describe, while on psychadelic compounds would be in comparison to ourselves, and use that as a basis for your speculations as to the nature of his death? :what:

Theravada Buddhism [Re: fireworks_god]

is a philosophy and a branch of Buddhism that follows all of Buddha's teachings, but denies him as a powerful deity. It teaches that he was simply a supremely gifted individual, but not a god.

Buddhism, like Satanism and now that I think about it, dozens of religions, is pretty solid stuff once you take out all the supernatural mumbo-jumbo.

sorry i got all pissed... I was drunk.... But it really does seem to me all your doing is making smartass remarks...a fully enlightened person would be a person on the level of Buddha...

Fire said-"How could you propose what the experience of some, technically unknown to us, individual who has attained a state of being that you cannot describe, while on psychadelic compounds would be in comparison to ourselves, and use that as a basis for your speculations as to the nature of his death? "

Then how come you said" ive eaten mushrooms and never say gods, again you contridict yourself"

fire said "If you wanted to express that you felt that modern accounts were more reliable, then you might have considered actually typing that in your response.

I fail to comprehend how an ancient text depicting mushroom poisoning is strange and not reliable...."

Modern accounts are more accurate than ancient ones...there!

You fail to comprehend how an ancient text about mushroom poisoning is unreliable?! You said we can't even be sure the Buddha even existed! but now your saying a very minor detail could not possibly be inaccurate? what the fuck?

Fire said and i quote" Ultimately, you are speculating on an event that could never even be confirmed to happen in the first place, the death of Buddha"

And i thinks it very possible for the word for hallucinogenic or the word for intoxicating or the word for poisonous could get lose in translation...

why would it be a "pigs delight" if it was made of pig? are pigs cannibals?

The following takes place after he eat's "pig's delight" (anybody ever heard of pigs being used to hunt mushrooms and truffles, i sure have...)

I got these from a translation - "Two gifts, he said, will be blessed above all others: the food given him by Sujata, which revived him so that he could attain Buddahood under the bodhi-tree, and the food given him by Cunda, which brought about his passing away.

Proceeding to a grove outside Kusinara the Buddha lay down for the last time, asking Ananda to arrange a bed with his head to the north. He then arranged himself in "the lion position" on his right side, and seeing that an elder monk was standing in front of him and fanning him, he told the monk to step aside. He explained that a multitude of gods had assembled to see him and that the elderly monk was obstructing their view."

SO HE SAYs A "mulitude gods appeared before him" AFTER HE ATE A MUSHROOM...
do you not see where i could draw my conclusions from? HE ATE A MUSHROOM AND SAW VISIONS OF GODS....how much more explict does it need to be...he ate a mushroom and saw "gods"....damn....it's not that hard make the connection...

what would the text have to say for you to believe it was psilocybin intoxication?....i mean it SAYS " he ate a mushroom and then saw "gods""...What would convince you people? would it have to say "he ate psilocybe cubensis and under the intoxication of psilocybin hallucinated "gods"" It's not going to state it like that...they did'nt know what psilocybin was in 300 B.C....

Why don't you respond to some of the above...

To be frank. This subject is of little real interest. Except as a joke. There is no answer to the silly question of what he may or may not have eaten in his last meal. If you want to believe it was shrooms then more power to you.

Thank you! Daytripper, with the evidence I've given would you say it justiciable to SPECULATE that the Buddha died after ingesting psilocybin mushrooms? Note- I'm not saying the psilocybin mushrooms killed him, the text say he Had a pre-existing illness, perhaps he knew he would die soon...and decided to do as Aldous Huxley did and die while tripping.

To everyone Else- If you would like to offer some real reasoning behind your smart ass remarks, then tell me something like- "the ancient text clearly are talking about pork, I speak the original language the text where written in and understand it fluently, I am very familiar with the word....etc." But offer wise fuck off...

All I'm saying is speculation justifiable, i am not saying- "O MY GOD, THE BUDDHA DIED ON 'SHROOMS, IT'S FACT!!!!!"

Daytripper is right, this certainly would not be the first cover up of the use of psychedelics in religion...

You are the one who suggested that Buddha died after ingesting mushroom and you have no real evidence to sustain it.
That's what we emphasized since thing is a debate forum.
We're not the ones who have to bring evidence that Buddha didn't eat mushroom, you have to bring to evidence that he did, this is how it works.

More to that, the link between Huxley and Buddha is inexistent.
Each of your "reasons" were torn into pieces and what you're doing now it's called mental masturbation.

And what, precisely, is the "level of Buddha"? You refer to it, so obviously you must have some conception of what it means...

Quote:

I said it to form substantiation for the fact that psychadelic mushroom usage does not equate with seeing a multitude of Gods. Your speculation is founded upon the notion that seeing a multitude of Gods means that the Buddha had consumed psychadelic mushrooms. I never contradicted myself as I never asserted what the experience of the Buddha would have been.

You, however are using the notion that he saw a multitude of Gods as basis for your speculation that he consumed psychadelic mushrooms. I utilized the notion of my own experience to demonstrate that this use of this notion is not apt.

Why don't you respond to some of the above...

I already responded to all of that. Why don't you actually engage in discussion instead of calling everyone else's valid points "smart-ass" and refusing to acknowledge that other people have already replied to your amazing points?

We are free to post in any manner consistent with the rules and intentions of this forum. This, of course, applies to you as well, and if I see you tell anyone else to fuck off for not conforming to your idea as to how they are to respond, you will receive a temporary forum ban.

I've personally already raised valid lines of reasoning in response to several of your assertions, all of which you have failed to address. Every single aspect of the foundation of your basis for your speculation, from the possibillity that there was a mistranslation, to the simple fact that his last meal included mushrooms, to the fact that he stated that he saw a multitude of gods, has been directly criticized, all of which have not yet received a compelling response from you.

Ultimately, you are assuming first that it was possible and trying to bend all of these "unknown possibilities" to align behind your allegation. Furthermore, the same standard that you would hold to our responses would, by necessity, need to apply to your own speculation. If you expect us to be Sanskrit scholars with access to the original texts in order to hold a substansial perspective on the matter, then the same automatically applies to your own perspective. You have no grounds upon which to place your speculation if this standard is to apply. :sorry:

Quote:

And all I'm saying is that it isn't actually justifiable.

Its funny how Buddha is considered such a great person because of his philosophies. I don't deny that he was a great teacher with great ideas, but remember people, he abandonned his wife and young children to seek enlightenment in the mountains. This strikes me as an odd move.....A selfish move, in fact.
Why would he do that, I wonder? Was his own enlightenment worth more than he being a provider and father to his family?

I believe he felt his life of privilege was unfair, do you know how he came to the conclusion to become a wondering monk? read up on it, he felt a deep sorrow for people suffering and wanted to end it.
Also his marriage was probably arranged and political like most marriages of noble families at that time, his bride was most likely from another rich family and i highly doubt she starved or suffered the like.
