Buddha's Death by 'Shroom
    #7132418 - 07/05/07 02:46 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Does anybody find it strange that the Buddha died of mushroom "poisoning"? Do you think it's possible he was given psilocybin mushrooms and didn't die but instead moved onto another state of existience?

I read that his brother purposefully offed him with poisonous mushrooms in order to manage his affairs.

I think he was purposely poisoned, but at the same time...death is another state of exsistence...So we's all right, Niggas!

The Buddha reached Enlightenment when he was 35 years old, but he still lived on to the age of 80

The Buddha died of food poisoning, but not necessarily mushroom poisoning. He also then went forward to tell an attendant of his to convince the blacksmith that gave him his last meal that it was not his fault.

Besides, psilocybin mushrooms originated in Central and Southern America. It's highly unlikely that anyone could get their hands on them to poison The Buddha.

Here's an analogy as to why I do talk about life after death, depsite you being just as right as someone who thinks the opposite.

No life after death is to Fuck You Faggot! as Life after death is to I LOVE YOU and Your Beautiful.

Its a statement merely to aid in the gestalt I create for my self. It's very easy to say something grounded in logic, but there is also a certain logic to being illogical, which usually creates fun and love whenever I do participate in that sort of...logic. I say everything for reason, but there is not a reason for everything.

ya i know he became enlightened at 35....and please don't make this argument over life-after death...that's a personal believe...and yes adrug, i think it is very fanciful, but it just seems strange to me that a rare "delicacy" mushroom killed the Buddha...perhaps it was Amanita muscaria or pantheria, which may have been used religiously in the ancient world. Certainly the Chinese knew of psilocybian intoxication and refereed to it as "laughing sickness" and had cures for it....so the knowledge of shrooms was certainly know to the ancients....(which may cause me to open another thread discussing this)

P.S.-Apolly you've commented on alot of my threads, do you think they're stupid or do you like them?? just wondering...

Shrooms are all over the world (Whoever said they only grow in the americas is dead wrong, anybody wanna back me up?) I am postive they grew in china at that time, the chinese talk about it in medical documents, psilocybian intoxication is know as "laughing sickness"!
And you over looked the fact that i mentioned Amanita Muscaria/Pantheria which are known to grow in those areas, even if it's rare.

I think you may be referring to me, so I'll answer anyway.

I know that mushrooms do not grow only in the America's, for they're growing in my closet right now. I said that mushrooms originally came from the America's, but I'm not sure how popular they were around the time of Buddha.

And by the way, Buddha was born in what is Modern Day Nepal, part of ancient India. He was not Chinese.

I still believe that the Buddha was not poisoned or given a hallucinogenic mushroom, not because of its availability, but because he stated that he plans on willfully passing into parinirvana after his final meal.

As we all known, no known mushrooms cults existed at the time of the buddha in the old world. Psilocybin mushrooms have ALWAYS grown all over the world they were not "imported" from america in the modern era.(somebody back me up)
And yes i know the Buddha was not born in china, all i was sayin was that the chinese had knowledge of psilocybian intoxication....India isn't that far from china so the knowledge was probley known there as well.

If i was going to have a final meal before passing into another plane of existience my top choose for dinner would be shrooms!

I don't know much about the history of mushrooms, and you're probably right. But from what I understand about Buddhism, the Buddha would have never indulged in any psychoactive drug knowingly. I know you would, but in his case, as an enlightened being, he had all the serotonin he could ever need already. :smirk:

In a book of buddhist scriptures i read there is a story about the buddha's iron constitution. it talks about his state of total enlightenment as being an overruling mitigation in such matters as food poisoning, ie. he could not suffer such a fate.

so is the idea he died from food/mushroom poisoning a popular one?
