Ethics of Embryonic Dissections

So, hypothetically speaking, if you had to dissect a chick embryo for a class you were taking...as in take a fertilized egg, crack it open, and watch the beating heart of the chick slowly stop beating and then cut it up, would you do it?

It seems like an unnecessary taking of life to me. What do you think though, is it ethical?

I'd skip that class myself. People say that we have gained so much by doing this kind of thing. I would counter that we don't know how much we have lost by doing this kind of thing. :mushroom2:

every time you scratch your nose you kill about 100 cells.

I think that seeing the heart beat is good for you
the act may end in the death of a chicken before it becomes fricassee but what it shows about the mystery of life is really worth the trouble.
just imagine how many chickens and eggs went into the man who made your chevrolet!
all those had magical hearts beating in their eggshells.
now your chevrolet is more magical.
just wait 'till the dissection eveals this thing. you can make it a sacred thing of wonder.

to see the wonder and do next to no harm
these chicken eggs are part of a descheduled moral zone
the food production of billions has enabled this blip in moral processing.
yes it is wrong to kill, but it is right to eat and to survive.

and to eat eggs is generally a good thing.
non-polluting, natural, healthy (watch cholestrerol), tasty.
so in this way it is not governed by an aversion to killing, and the process itself, is related to surgery, and that is essentially life giving, or life-sustaining, and certainly worthwhile learning.
you may decide to become a surgeon after learning about this, especially with your more lofty concerns.
and that woud be a great thing
