I seriously didn't see one mushroom growing in any of the say 50 - 100 wood chip piles. maybe it's just me or this town, is any body else finding mushrooms in wood chips after that rain?

p.s. i'm in napa not too far from the bay mabey i shoud drive to marin

Hehehehe!!!  I think the specific dates of my trip will be Nov. 20-Dec. 13.

I'll be staying with my parents in a house on one of those windy mountain roads, landscaped with lotsa woodchips.
My parents are um.. well off.

In any case, I know this isn't the gathering forum, so i understand if it gets edited, but i have to ask..
Quankus, Auweai, notapillow, and anyone else in Mill Valley or surrounding areas?  Who's gonna show me the ropes up in SF?

Ouchies. Well, when i was in the SF area, there had been no rain and I found the woodchips barren. I'm hoping when I go up in a few weeks, I will find otherwise.

purple, you're fine in Napa..that's one of the few places I've never checked out, cause it's a little too far on a bike/bus, but seriously, that's close enough, and shouldn't be any worse than marin.

It's too early right now all over, even on the coast for most woodchip piles. It's gonna take a couple more weeks even with some good rains

You got just as much rain as we did here in the city...even more. Those lbm and more fragile mycenas, etc you see in the grass are always the first to come up, and right now it's mostly in heavily watered grass, anywhere in N california.

Ya see, there was one post from Sacramento today, and I can bet it's the same thing there too, a spot that's already watered.

even most places on the coast that are watered, there's hardly nuttin..Not even mycenas and pans in alot of places, much less hypholomas and cyans.

there's plenty of time...no hurry, just be glad we didn't get a hard freeze like Washington did last week

Looks like an inactive panaeolus or psathyrella to me. Why are you pretending to toss a frisbee in order to hunt mushrooms? Inevitably you will look obvious while hunting; bending over, constantly staring at the ground, etc., but if you act sketchy about it, people will think you ARE sketchy. I personally find it empowering to hunt and be ready and able to explain the fascination and knowledge I have of mushrooms of all types. It's a hobby I am proud of. It's just like stopping to smell the roses and there ain't nothin' wrong with that...testify

I told an old lady that I was mushroom hunting once, after she'd asked what I was doing.

She smiled and said, "I'm so glad there are some kiddos like you who don't go around in the gangs."

She was tickled pink. I coulda took her home with me if I had tried.

Most people don't mind mushroom hunters, to be quite honest.

I also asked a guy in his 40's if I and a friend of mine could hunt for mushrooms under his Hazelnut trees, and he said, "Yes. Are they the good kind?" I replied, "Of course." He then laughed and said just stay around this area and don't go poking around the other parts of my property.

I have never had a bad confrontation with anyone, while mushrooms hunting.

I strictly hold to one rule: Do not trespass onto peoples' property without thier permission. Always ask, and they will alomost always give you permission. If not, you don't have to worry about them calling the cops or anything, cause you have done nothing wrong. Asking is not a crime.

Take care.
