What's the Scientific Proof for Science?
    #5108599 -

Can you prove the absolute validity of science using only science? And if so, please do so.

Get together several thousand (or however many you wish) glasses of vinegar, and drop a 1/4 cup of baking soda into each one and see if there are any that don't bubble over.

anomalies happen. look at the mutated humans. and science explains that ( if that is what you were refering to )

Can you prove the absolute validity of science

Your point becomes moot right there.

Science does not claim "absolute validity". Anyone who does so is not a scientist. Science claims only to have the currently best explanation of the way things work.

That explanation can and does change over time, as the scientific community learns more about nature. Thus "absolute validity" and "science" should not appear in the same sentence.

Mutation in genetics is not an "anomaly", as it is expected to happen.

Prove you're not a brian floating in a vat and I can prove that your own experience validates science.
Solipsism is a bitch... but if I were all by myself, I think I'd start believing in God too. If I didn't, I'd vanish in a puff of logic faster than Descartes thinking not.

Okay...I'm a Daniel floating in a vat.

But I don't think there's any way to prove that you aren't. You can argue that by no means does it seem like you are, but I don't think you can ever be positive. Science is but one explanation of Reality, and it is a fairly good explanation for what we call "physical matter". But beyond that it fails miserably, because it employs a very  materialistic philosophy.

Beyond that? Clarify.

That's circular reasoning man.

Definition: a use of reason in which the premises depends on or is equivalent to the conclusion, a method of false logic by which "this is used to prove that, and that is used to prove this"; also called circular logic

Do not equate "materialistic" with "objective".

Beyond that? Clarify.

Beyond that meaning that which is not objectively observable, such as subjective experiences, the divine (though I think it is everywhere, so to say that the divine isn't something would be misleading), higher dimensions, energies, beings...metaphysical phenomena.

Err, nothing in science is ever proved.

This is a common misconception by those who don't have the fist clue about what science is and would be hard pressed to so much as give the definition of the word 'theory', yet somehow feel qualified to comment on scientific matters.

that which is not objectively observable

What is not objectively observable is, by definition, not science. This is why science says nothing about mystical pursuits other than they have never been observed.

2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Many people fail to realize that faith in science is still faith, and as such it isn't different from other religious and spiritual faiths, although perhaps not as farfetched as some.

Okay, but don't equate "infallible sensory input" with what I said.

Objective - something that actually exists, as determined by consensual agreement (not necessarily the majority) on the interpretation of sensory input and relevant experience.

There is no such thing as faith in science. There is only the available observations, the likely explanations, and the proposed experiments to validate or invalidate those explanations.

I don't see any faith there, only observation (which requires no faith) and experimental verification (which requires no faith).

That is the net sum of science.

so what is subjective ? the influences of different people on the objective ? which is the consensual agreement on the interpretation of sensory input.. so all objectives are subjecttified ?
