In 1944 the top income tax was 94%.

He said that every citizen paid 96%. Not the top tax bracket.
I'm also seeing that there were all kinds of loopholes and tricks to not have to pay that rate. 200 grand was also the equivalent of 3.2 million dollars in today's money, so I shed no tears for those millionaires.

His point was simple. Refusing to pay is not the same as universal healthcare.

At a minimum, it means healthcare is more expensive for those that pay. At a minimum, the for profit system is a total ripoff far worse than bloated government systems. It’s even that way here.

Like I said before, I'm not defending the current system, but like pre ww2, the tax rate on all citizens was 96%, but they baked in a bunch of loop holes to get the effective tax rate to under 20%. A system like that is the best. It seems corrupt, but it is designed to be like that. When I was a wildlands firefighter we literally had a training on what to do if we're hurt cause we didn't have healthcare. Pay 10$/month for 5 years, then call and get it forgiven.

What country do you live in? America never taxed every citizen 96%.

You're right, my bad, it was 94% in 1944

We should hate 100% of Californias population.

I am tired of seeing their comments on muscle car auctions saying dumb stuff like, can this pass California emissions?

Commifornians, just go drive your Nissan leaf and get out of the auction.

FLASHBACK: Tim Walz promised to return HALF of Minnesota’s budget surplus if voters re-elected him, saying he could do it in a “15-minute” special session.

He promised $1k per person, $2k per family.

Democrats took control, but the checks never came.

big difference between "if I win XYZ will happen" vs "if REPUBLICANS win, XYZ will happen"

and that difference is criminal.

No both are illegal. You're not allowed to sell votes, in any election.

bullshit.  the entire basis of campaigning as a politician is "elect me and we'll enact $legislation"

the difference here is that trump is promising to cut checks from the US treasury based soley on whether his party wins.  beyond being blatantly illegal, it's not up to trump whether anyone gets a check for anything, as congress controls the nations purse strings, not the president/executive.

he's promised doge checks, tariff checks, etc etc.  just more lies for the rubes.  keeps you busy while he steals everything that isn't nailed down.

That's about buying votes.  Trump didn't tell people that he'd pay them if they vote for him.  Can you cite a statute that makes it illegal to make campaign promises?

Every campaign promise is contingent on winning an election, is it not?  Either all campaign promises are illegal or none are under that code.

So the implication made when you say "if republicans win the midterms" or "if you vote for me to be governor" you will get direct direct payments isn't an implication of "if you vote for me I will pay you".

Not shedding tears for those who have every means of helping themselves doesn't equate hate....but honestly I probably do, I'd have to meet them all individually before I make that judgement call though.

The tax rate was that high, but only about 25% of people paid that. It was written with hundreds of loopholes to drop the effective tax rate to well below 94%. I don't exactly know what the loopholes were, but I'm sure they incentivized certain business practices, behaviors, etc. But that's what I was getting at with comparing the current health care system to that way of taxing. On paper its a 94% tax rate, but in practice it was no where near 94%. On paper the health care system fucks you, but if you know how to play the system then it doesn't fuck you as bad. But yea its not a good system regardless.

But neither politician said that. They aren't offering just to pay people who vote for them. They are offering to pay everybody including those who do not vote at all or vote against them.

All politicians make promises in an attempt to sway an election. Such speech is protected by the first amendment. Congress does not have the power to prohibit such speech and if they do that law is void.
