The fruits and mycelium that is.
It's very moist/darn-near wet (the casing) but I do keep the lid
cracked or slightly bump UP the microcurrents for Tamps/Stone species.
Also heavily relying on FAE for evap, lowering CO2, etc.
Either way works great!
wet peets during early pinning

I love after a bit with a half-sand half-course vermiculite casing,
some of the casing layer peels off  & it looks and feels like

I also, in my experience, I noticed AFTER pinning and when cap is
already almost opened up, significantly lowered humidity (close to 8%)
sometimes make the caps look a bit different too. I THINK that's what does it.
Moist caps
Dry caps, lower humidity

Just something I noticed, I could be completely wrong though
so you have just been disclaim-ered

It's only a stand alone shoe box, very limited space, no way for me to have drainage.

I'll have to toe the line, keep a watchful eye, and mist or adjust airflow as needed, try to keep it just north of soggy.

Thanks for the help though guys!

Put a shoebox inside of another shoebox and drainage holes in the first on that goes inside the other one

There's an idea. I'll just have to float that boi and transfer it to the holey box.

You aren't wrong, that's the way they look with low humidity, curl up on you like a taco... mad about the moisture drop, the fruits will let you know.

If you’re able to start at the beginning, I would just fill an aluminum pan with your substrate ..in your shoebox put some holes in it and then you can have your shoebox just like normal but the holes in the aluminum pan will give the drainage that you might need 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, at your impetus I just drilled the fuck out of a shoebox and it just might have improved the outcome of this project immensely, and for that I tip my hat to you.

I've been pondering your previous words anyway, I saw how you mentioned the aluminum pan w/ holes thing, and saw your immense success at fruiting these guys. Mostly it made me lament my limited options, but then it just clicked.

I got a good feeling.

Honestly, seems like a good option to keep things simple.

Plus it took me back to the time I drilled out a SGFC back about a decade and a half ago. Shit made me laugh.

No cracks this time though.

You can keep the Holy Box Tek™️ name though.

My gift.

Great best of luck but I was thinking maybe like four holes just let the excess water come out, but it honestly doesn’t matter how many hole you put in there as long as it holds the substrate in place

This plate fell from my table to the ground and so the transferred agar wedges moved a bit but we got some Ps. Gallaeciae mycelium. This thing is producing sclerotia knots now. Definitely smells like it's section Mexicanae  pleasant cucumber scent

If you can smell it, that normally means that airflow is going from the dish to your nose, which also means contamination to do the same thing. I don’t know. Hopefully you have it wrapped up with something that lets gas out, but not contaminate the plate.

I use this grafting tape. It’s only eight bucks for four rolls. It’s stretchy and clingy. Does a great job.

Oh absolutely, that grafting tape works wonders. I have a few rolls but I'm just going through the last of my parafilm 😅 stuff sucks compared to grafting tape. But I smelled this last night with the top part off and in front of my hood. The mycelium smells similar to Tampanensis, Mexicana and Caerulescens. Which in this section it can give off that cucumber scent. It smells good! It's a clean culture for sure though

I am in the same boat, I'm almost out of this big roll of parafilm and I'm going with grafting tape when it's finished, tired of the parafilm snapping and not stretching, it only gets worse the older it is.

I found there are three different colors and they have different properties. I like the clear the best as it stretches the best and it’s moisture proof so your dishes do not dry out.

I love it when I have a big bag of tamps to put to bulk when I first opened the bag and break it up…
I can always tell how good of a grow it’s going to be from the smell. It’s kind of like almonds and cucumbers, and things like that. It’s quite potent.

The tape is so much better. Parafilm does get worse the older it gets. I've had to add more parafilm to older plates I'm currently not working on because of it cracking. It's the worst

How long does your parafilm last? I just finished my first roll and it lasted almost two years without drying out or cracking even on plates over a year old. I do keep my roll of parafilm in a zip bag and plates in shoeboxes.

I also buy them from a local lab so the parafilm is always fresh and probably don't sit long on storage shelf :strokebeard:

When I would buy para film, I would never know because it not have a manufactured date on it. Sometimes I would buy it, and it would start falling apart and other times it would last a year or so but the point is with this grafting tape it never wears out or expires. Had it on five-year plates and it still looks as good as normal.

It’s also a lot cheaper six bucks for four rolls

I've had my rolls of parafilm for almost 3 years now but I took a break from cultivating for a while. The first roll I got was online and it looked kind of old and the 2nd roll I got was from a friend who was cultivating Cubes for a bit and ended up giving me a bunch of stuff including that roll. But his roll was in a storage unit which in his area temps reach over 90°s F so that roll was funky forsure. Since then they've sat in my closet in the open 😅

That's such a great idea to put the rolls in plastic baggies. I recently started putting plates in shoeboxes after my girlfriend suggested it 😌 that's awesome Kloakk you got access to that lab, I'm sure stuff's fresh there

Grafting tape isn't really a thing where I live, probably because of the short summers we have  Where do you get yours?

Yeah that's no good, I've seen some members here getting dried out rolls of parafilm and then it makes sense to avoid it, it's not cheap and if it isn't working like it's supposed to it gets frustrating.

The lab I get mine from also supplies a lot of schools so I would think the parafilm never sits long. I get my disposable plates from them as well and often they give me a free 10 pack because one plate is cracked which is pretty neat.

Thanks for the insight guys, it makes sense to avoid parafilm when it doesn't work as intended.
