Started some galindoi tubs and thought I’d go back and try some different approaches. I wanted to see if keeping stones in the substrate made any significant impact on the yield of fruits. I did this when I first started cultivating these some time ago but wanted to re-do the trial now that I’m more confident in my approach to fruiting, as back then all the tubs I ran with stones removed yielded very poorly in comparison to ones that had them left in the substrate. So I’ve always kept them in since then. However I’ve been seeing more folks say removing them worked better so I wanted to revisit it and see how it went for me. I ran six tubs total all from the same culture, albeit a pretty old one. Substrate was a mix of coir and horse manure all made the same. 400g dry coir and like 200g dry manure, I eyeball my manure so not exact, per tub. All mixed and pasteurized in a big batch and evenly distributed. 4 quarts spawn per tub, all spawn had been aged for 4-5 months I didn’t date them but that’s what I remember roughly, regardless all this spawn was made the same day that time ago. 3 tubs were ran with stones in the substrate, 2 ran with stones removed, and the wild card tub was ran with stones included plus the stones removed from the other two tubs, cause fuck it why not. All tubs were cased after 1ish week with peat and lime mixture. Here are the results of the first flush: Stones kept in substrate: Tub 1
 Tub 2
 Tub 3

Stones removed Tub 1
 Tub 2

Stones kept and extra added Tub 1

Some pics were taken before many mushrooms had matured as the flushes were uneven, in those cases the ready ones were harvested and the others left until matured then harvested. Before I go into yield comparison I did notice that the tub with extra stones added was the first to pin and mature, followed by normal stones added, and finally stones removed taking the longest to pin and mature. Granted there was only like a three day spread, extra stones pinned a day later regular ones pinned and two days after that. As far as yield goes, regular stones kept in averaged 982g wet, removed stones 1049g wet, and the solitary extra stone added at 1089g wet. However the regular stones and extra stones both dried at nearly exactly 90% water netting 97g and 105g dry, while the stones removed dried at over 90% water netting 94g dry. Regardless I wouldn’t consider this spread of weights substantial enough to say one is better than the other. Though I will see if subsequent flushes sheds any light, I plan to flush them two or three times.

The tamps are still filling in... This is tub one:

Tub two looks similar, but has a spot of the mean green I noticed about two days ago :

I have high hopes for it still, but I'm probably going to trash it after this flush.
Tangentially related, Miraculix PsiloQ tests arrived today! Going to test these freeze dried vs dehydrated.

Well guys it took way way too long, but I’ve finally successfully run Mexicana. All the grows I’ve seen posted barely had any stones so I figured using a clone culture from a plate stone would be fine. I was shocked by the result.
However right when I was about to give up…..
BEHOLD

wow i'm amazed how much tamps will fill in! this tub looks way more full than it did even a few days ago. this is my first time fruiting tamps, am i close to harvest? or should i wait a few more days? i have tomorrow off & was gonna do some nats, but if i can sample these fresh i might do that instead. i know they are regarded as a bit more potent than cubes, any suggestion on what dose fresh would be equivalent to like 2.5-3g of good cubes? don't want to completely melt into energy but i do wanna feel it a bit lol

I put one of my cakes in my outdoor bed setup that has misters that activate on a timer a couple of times a day. I guess between that, the rain, and the temps, this Mexicana variety is happy:

Second flush did well in the EZ Dial water tub. Lots of caps over an inch in diameter. Definitely going to continue using this for a low tech/low cost fruiting chamber for tamps. Now to try some other exotics in this thing
