Another mycelium examp: April 20, 2026, incubated at warmer temps, colonizing CVG manure compost.

I believe back in Feb. of this year, I found a six month old plate, (pretty dehydrated) of ATL#7 genetics, gifted to me a while back.
I used it to inoculate a few new plates. Then they sat there for another month or two  before I put them to grain.
(Same genetics, Aug. 2025)
So now I have new plates for the future too!
Here are the fruits, pins appeared in less than a week.
Huuzzahh she's back  the ATL7 isolate is! Even gave me two very small truffles.
Photos from April 25th - May 3rd.

Hello, making some agar for the giveaway wedge tmrw, anyone got a good recipe? Would it be fine to use  sterilized WBS water with agar and lme? Or should I just use normal distilled water? Has anyone tried this?

The WBS may be okay, but lme would be pretty standard.

I typically use either:
- MEA: tap water, 2% LME, 2% agar
- GWA: grainwater from simmering wheat or brown rice, either as is or diluted 50% with tap water, and 2% agar
- DWA: distilled water and 2% agar

Percentages are by water volume. I've only used Telephone brand agar-agar so far.

I use softer agar (closer to 1.5% agar) for germinating spores, and less nutrition (~0.5%) can be useful to encourage the myc to spread faster.

I tend to use blue food coloring in MEA and green in rice GWA, one drop for low-nutrient and three drops for normal, so I can distinguish them visually. Cube myc will consume the color itself, contam won't (AFAIK), so that's also a useful visual indicator. I leave DWA clear, wheat grainwater is amber already.

Generally, I'll use grainwater if I have it, MEA if I don't, and DWA for cloning and giveaway wedges. I haven't used PDA (potato+dextrose) yet but will probably try it when my current bag of lme runs out.

I tend not recommend preassmebled myco supplies but if you use 60mm plates, Amazon is running a deal for 15 bucks for 200ml pre sterilized, just microwave and pour. In my area If I ordered right now it would be at my door when I got home from work. I ordered a bunch of supplies but got this stuff same day

I only recommend because its same day and was super fucking convenient, poured 30 60mm plates out of the bottle and didnt have to turn on the PC

Thank you, I am going to attempt the grain water for my giveaway wedge tonight, I don’t have potato dextrose. I am going to do this by your discretion, so 2% agar would be 20 g to 1000 mg grain water, correct?

Correct, assuming you meant 1000 ml (or g). Thinking about it in terms of % is helpful with variable size batches -- I usually make 250ml at a time (in a pint jar), but sometimes more, or just a couple pre-pour containers. 1ml of water is close enough to 1g for formula purposes, so I measure everything by weighing.

You could also try searching the agar envy thread, but that's what I do.

Atl7 ran through the casing immediately, should be pinning any day now hopefully.

quick question, did you allow your spawn to produce stones before birthing to the sub? can I grow stones, harvest, and then spawn the remaining and it not be too damaged?

This is what i always do, but not because I like stones, but because the stones actually add larger clusters of mushrooms when it all grows together
Plus, I don’t always have the time to use all the bags I’ve inoculated at once

hell yeah, I got some old galindoi on plate. thinking I'm gonna fruit some and do some smaller jars for stone production. you can clone stones on agar the same way as cubes right?

First time working with stone producers here!

I got a print of a tamp cross from Wedgie (ATL#7 x Mystery Tamp #2) and now have plates that look ready for grain. Want to use some of it for stones and some for fruits. Anything I should pre-prep for while waiting for them to colonize the jars?

When you take thoseAgar plates to grain I would make twice as many as you think you’re going to use because they stay viable for up to like 10 months to go to bulk
You can consume stones out of it and use the rest for bulk or put it all to bulk or do whatever you want it doesn’t matter

Alrighty. At the moment I can maybe handle two more shoeboxes, so I'll plan for that and keep some jars aside for stones and/or storage. Was asking about pre-prep because I've seen some folks here add sawdust/wood pellets to the substrate and soak it for a bit. Also something about a casing layer made with sand + peat moss or seedling starter mix?

Oh…. No dont need anything more
I grow my spawn on 100% wheat then when it is colonized mixed with 100% coir add a ratio of about one  to two coir
Thats it

I noccec (wedged) this jar on May 9th. It's almost fully colonized but looks pretty weird

It's the first one with which I've gotten so far with tamps. Is that looking normal?

Looks good to me.

The thick veins usually mean it’s switching to fruiting and it looks like some stones are starting to form

Thanks!

In just 12 days and without finishing colonizing the jar? Wow.

So,do people let the stones grow for a couple of months and then send the remaining grain to coir to get fruits?
