Re: The official Psilocybe natalensis/ ochraceocentrata thread. [Re: PhenoDreamers]

Ok so what is up with Ochra stumps turning into green trich looking stuff? On the stump itself.

It's something I've noticed, sometimes leftover stumps or hidden mushrooms on the side that I didn't pick turn into what looks like pure green trichoderma. I didn't see it turning white first, it's like as it gets absorbed, it breaks down into a green moldy looking mass.

This happened in my latest straw tub, and I did a surgery. It worked, which tends to not be the case. Have gotten two more flushes since and no sign of anything mold. I have been more careful about picking everything.

Is this an oddity of Ochras? Since they bruise green often I wonder if it has anything to do with that.

Or is this an example of it getting contaminated with trich, but Ochra actually DOES have more resilience than cubes?

I have no idea what you mean dude. But I know you took a break for a while. Might not have caught the word that what used to be called nats are now ochra. And nats are something totally different.. to out it in layman's terms anyways

I got Nat spores from primalsoup a while ago, do you think the species they were growing was actually ochra?

@creon, Yeah those are ochra.

@huskies, the green is just bruising on the stumps and them breaking down. You'll only see this with ochra, because they're the only species that bruise green instead of blue

Caps do it too. They turn green but it’s not the mean green. Maybe it’s the ochre colour and the blue bruising that ends up green.

Baocistis I've been told causes green bruises and I have seen green bruising on baeocystis in the only wild specimen and only specimen of baeocystis I've ever seen too 🙏

I stand corrected. I have never seen baeocystis in person. 😢 Hopefully I can fruit that one soon though. Have to break that culture out of storage!

What @phenodreamers, I've been wondering and dreaming about this mushroom for a long time (fascinating to me).  Let me know, I would love to see bottle caps grown, interested in pellicosa lately to for some reason.  Breaks into @phenodreamers storage... there you are my sweet, sexy spores (or however they are stored).

Yeah man straight into fruiting but it doesn't help with the overlay imo. Some people just let the pins push through that thick overlay and I used to do the same but now I scrape the overlay off with a sterilized fork like kloakk always recommend and it works much better. The overlay seems to choke the rest of the sub quite badly IME.

Thanks SkanskKorv! Just the info I was looking for!

First time growing Ochras, I just scraped the overlay off with a fork.

What timeline should i expect regarding pinning?

Coir only, 1:3 ratio. S2B 2026.07.12.
Up until now i have treated them like any cube. Any suggestions or tips?

Same timeline as cubes mate :awesome: my latest Ochra tub pinned after around 16 days or so. Just keep treating them as cubes but don't be afraid of giving them sone extra Fae. I flip the lids on my cube monos when I grow Ochras and leave it slightly offset. If I don't I have to harvest ramen:uhoh:

Have you taped up all the holes there bud :strokebeard: I like to give the surface a good mist after the scrape and usually see pins within a week.

Hey Kloakk!

Yeah, the holes are taped up, I had a gnat problem a while back and I'm still on high alert:lol:

I'll give them a mist and some more air. It is your genetics btw:rockon:

Hi homie, you good 👀

Gnats?? Here?? New fear unlocked :uhoh: With the holes taped up they'll probably overlay again, my genetics give great fruits, but a lot of overlay :cryariver:

At least switch out the tape with mp tape or something that breathes :strokebeard:

Yeah, I'm good, starting to come around after some minor setbacks, stupid mental health :muppet::lol: You good?

I am using MP tape so it's not completely sealed, but definitely too little FAE.

I don't know if they were gnats or fruit fly type of flies or what, but they sure liked to squat my tubs. :mad2:
Have not seen any of them for a while now, so it looks like I got the problem under control:grin:

 Seems we had the same life flow lately, just coming out of a lame mental health fog myself  Got a good tray of Bispo so that dragged my head out my ass and feeling better :muppet:

Well, I'm going with fruit flies as that is less scary, gnats or fruit flies, a couple of months now and they'll all be frozen and dead

Are these gills connecting to the stipe like an Ochra? I was looking at the gills on my mislabeled Super APE and they look like subdecurrent gills to me, but I’m still learning and could be way off!!
