Bit of a crosspost from the Picture of The Day Thread but...

First time growing P. ochraceocentrata
Veils began tearing last night.
I came home from work today & it still doesn't seem like there's been much sporulation so I think I might wait until tomorrow to harvest because I would like some prints.

Dear ochraceocentrata cultivators, how is it to cultivate this species?

Does it colonize aggressively?
Is it resistant to contamination?
Does it have a high yield?
Do the individual fruits have high potency?

I would also appreciate any other things you guys have found and think are relevant to know about the ochraceocentrata species.

Yes, mycelium gets extremely ropy and thick

I’d say it’s no more resistant than any other are

From what I have seen, it does not have as high of a yield as some of the well established cubes do

Individual fruits are hit and miss you can find 1 g that’s just an average trip versus a separate gram from the same flush, which is equal to 5 g of normal ones so they very greatly

I’m going back to growing my favorites of Jack Frost, and ATL#7 …. but to each his own

But you used multispores or liquid culture/agar? Is very common to have this variation in fruits if you use multispores culture instead of a clone.

What would be the high yield strains you are talking specifically?

Both first I used the liquid culture from the place. I got it from. Then I made my own agar plates from a clone of a big mushroom I thought would be genetically superior
I also collect my own spore prints and germinated them to agar. They all turned out to be about the same thing.

I’ve already mentioned the strains I like, and I think our high-yield with consistent potency

ATL7

oh, ok. thanks for the comment, it was very helpful.

i've seen that ochraceocentrata was at first confused with cubes or natalensis, and at first got names like natal super strength or african transkei. what was generally said about this was that they were more resistant than cubes, and that it colonizes more aggressively and had good yields. in potency tests(like shroom potency cups), i've seen african transkei and especially natal super strength have very high potency, very close to well established high potency strains like APE or Enigma. that's why i got very interested in it. as it seems to be easier than cubes, while also having high potency and high yield.

Everything I have said is only my opinion I like others for different reasons
BUT LOOK AT …TERPENES… grow they look fantastic and who knows they might be everything your looking for
Only one way to tell is grow some on your own and see what you like

terpenes? this is not something that weed has? didn't find a specific strain with this name.

what i want is a strain primarily with a good substrate to alkaloid production ratio. which means producing the most alkaloids(not exactly the most amount of shrooms, but the most amount of alkaloids) with the least amount of substrate.

generally contamination resistant or aggressive colonization is something less important because there's not so much difference between cubensis strains, based on what people say.

At the bottom of the page there's a "Search this thread: " box. "potency" is a good search term. So is "miraculix", a brand of potency test kit.

Very beautiful. I've found these give wonderful prints, I get very thin prints from the cubes ive tried but those caps could have been dried out

So I grew some P. Nat via genetics provided from JW123.  I'd have to say it was probably the easiest, fuss-free grow I've ever done.  Here are some pics of that 2 mini-tub and 6 shoe-box test grow.  I now have 8 mini-tubs in flight.  All substrates 2.5 inch depth with 1/8 inch 50/50 casing ->

And ...... for my COUP DE GRÂCE .... here is the .9ml Qtest

Since the Qtest is supposed to be a 1ml test BUT I could only get .9ml through the syringe filter and into the syringe I'm gonna do a little math and estimate potency at ->

.9x=2.1
x=2.1/.9
x=2.33% total desired alkaloid ..... give or take a few since it is a reagent test ....  I'm not disappointed at all in this result.  Enjoy.

PhreakFakt0r

Those results track with mine. I think I supplied JW123 with his nat print so it is pretty cool to see they are really close potency wise. I'm glad he spread the hell out of them. I got my print from turtle hermit.

All I got to say BigWorm is .... you da man.  And on that note San Pedo Girl ... you rock too.  And all the rest of ya'

PhreakFakt0r

these one's are ochra's right? it have some goddamn high total alkaloids, lol. even if you take some of the potency out of the equation, based on the yield, i think is fair to say that is one of the most productive strains there is.

Ochras from back when we still called them nats, but yes ochras.

Yes, people called them "natalensis" or "nats" until about 2 years ago. What got passed around as "natalensis" was actually a distinct species from the proper natalensis type specimen, so now that species is called "ochraceocentrata" or "ochras" instead. Cultivating actual natalensis is rare, but ochras are common, pretty easy to grow, and tend to be more potent than classic cubes. Mine tested around 1.5%, give or take, and that's just a particular culture I like because it doesn't drop spores.

i've seen that you also have done some miraculix testing with ochras, that was about 1,8% to 2,1% total alkaloids based on the color. what are your insights about this species? they have a good yield? is easier than cubes? are resistant to contamination?

any insights is welcomed.
