I’m curious as to what causes it. Likely a contam of some sort, but maybe not something that inhibits growth when spawned to sub? Like, maybe something cube myc is comfortable sharing space with, maybe symbiotic?

I've noticed that with ochraceocentrata (what I thought was natalensis) it almost seemed like it carried weird things with it over multiple generations. agar looked weird allt eh way up to spore print, and it still looked weird after a couple of those rounds. but it always grew huge mushrooms lol

Yeah, I agree. I “know” my transfers have been ok.  So I’m ok with a weird generational bacteria. I wonder if that generational bacteria is always bad.

I think there's probably all sorts of bacteria that ride along the whole time that aren't harmful or helpful, just there. I like your idea of a symbiotic bacteria because of course there has to be right? i mean, all they do is mutate to fit the environment, so it would be less likely that there isn't a single one that will symbiote with cubensis

I’ve always thought that. No doubt there are baddies that fuck up the grow. But we always have to have gunk we can’t see. I could be wrong.

I know there's symbiotic bacteria for woodlovers like azurescens in the wild though for cubensis idk can only assume there is in the wild. Probably why most attempts to introduce cultivated species into the wild to make permanent patches don't work out(entirely opinion and not fact based aside from the benificial bacteria in the wild for azures)

maby if we collected samples of the materials related species colonizes in the wild n attempted to colonize it with a cultivated species or whatever u Wana call ur mutants or hybrids these days lol.

U might see some success then take a clone from one of those to grow indoors who knows might be more resistant xD might carry over the wild beneficial bacteria if there is any. (This is entirely experimental and unproven n probably a terrible idea)
N

The real pipe dreams if u make it that far I wonder if u can colonize that said benificial bacteria if it exists to introduce to other varietys if it's compatable through more experiments 😍

Hey all
I have an Agar question but have already posted about my question elsewhere...
I guess I shouldn't spam this site with redundant posts (I assume that's not cool)
but the Noob Forum seems kind of inactive.. I also posted in a thread called "Ask Quick Questions, Get Quick Answers",  but if it's ok for me to ask again here-
is it not okay if the agar I bought has these ingredients??
ingredients:
Glucose, agar, konjac powder, thickening agents (polysaccharides)  ?

TYIA and sorry if I'm doing this wrong
also sorry about username

No psilocybe species have any symbiotic relationship with any organism. The entire genus is saprotrophic. They fruit off DEAD organic material. Every single species in the genus works like this, including all woodlovers, exotics, and dung lovers. Successful fruiting is based entirely off temperature, proper hydration, nutrient source, and nutrient depletion. After that, fruit morphology comes down to additional things, like lighting, fae, genetic isolation, etc.

This is what I believe to be the first 100% clean pan culture I’ve had in the last 8 months and possibly ever.  It’s a clone that took a 20 minute syringe filtered h2o2 soak and a trench to get it.  No brown shit or biofilm.  Just myc and agar.

I went back to Nijiya asian supermarket and they have agar-agar only packets as well, so I learned don't look at the shelf label-look at the ingredients (which are labeled additionally in English even though it's an asian supermarket..I'm dumb for not thinking about that, I know)
I was just rushing and anyways hope this helps anyone else

would be good to know any major retailers or any sure fire products one can get locally (not online whatsoever) like kroger chains, health stores, etc in the LA area. Thanks all for being here

Could you explain a ‘20 minute syringe filtered h202 soak’ just a bit?
Thank you:mushroom2:
