Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

There is a difference between actively choosing to put on a specific "face" when you approach a specific group versus subconsciously changing roles, which happens without our intention or awareness.

It could, of course, be argued that Swami meant the latter when he said that he goes into "character" on the boards..

But I have a hard time swallowing that concept, considering the demonstrations of his methods I've seen over the months.

I wasn't saying he was phony.. simply that he actively chooses to put on a specific "character" when he approaches these boards. That is something I do not do. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't do that.

As for us all being actors.. well, that is your opinion. Perhaps you don't mean acting in the way it's most commonly meant. To me, acting is the conscious and intentional "act" of pretending.

Because Swami actively and intentionally pointed out his own "characterization" while on the boards, one can only assume that it is an active and intentional move. I believe, as I stated above, that his intentions are good, (because he often dons certain hats to make others think certain ways) but by defying his own advice in action (even in character) he is still a hypocrite.

Shrug. It's just my opinion.

(P.S. to anyone who is afraid of the word "hypocrite", I should note that I am also a hypocrite. And so are you. I believe that just about everyone is a hypocrite. However, this does not mean that any given individual should not attempt to be less of a hypocrite if possible.)

Exactly. We are all actors whether we know it or not.

Yes, Swami is a hypocrite, and as you pointed out we all are. We should all work on ourselves rather than pointing fingers imo.

Right. I agree with that. That was my point in the first place.

Why do you think I posted all that in a thread that wasn't directed at Swami? I'm not going to go tell him how to live his life, even though he does it to everyone else.

It's kind of a paradox, to be someone frustrated with someone else for trying to tell yet OTHERS how to live.. because if you decide to say something about it, you become person 2, telling others how to live their lives.

Therefore, as I stated before, I choose to passively accept Swami as he is and simply delight in the positive aspects of the one we have come to know as..

The Swamster.

Peace out, y0.

I think that the position he takes on these boards is, basically, his true position. He may exagerate his position, but I feel that the clean and logical viewpoint is honest.

swami should devote more attention to PA&L

but I'm only saying that because I agree with his posts in that forum more often than his posts here.

anyway, he strikes me as the type of chap who doesnt sweat this community nearly as much as some members...  he's prolly out chasin some tail or something...  he'll be back

I'd get sick of this board is there were a lot of people like Swami.....but I really respect him.

I remember I never understood him until I tripped on LSD...and I felt so much good from the guy that I couldn't explain it. I got to see his workings on a higher level than I'm used to, as in.....his posts are logical, relative, direct, and truthful.

I am a REAL emotionally dominated person. Real creative, inquisitive, curious, and emotional. My thoughts are highly influenced by my feelings and emotions. I think thats the biggest reason I didnt like him at first. He seemed so void of compassion and understanding, and so quick to tell people this and that.

but now I see he really is doing good work on these boards. Instead of judging him by his attitude, how he presents himself, or what he says...one should judge the fruits of his effort.

If you pay attention, most people who dislike him, just werent able to let go of their beliefs, and accept they might be wrong.

Yeah, I think that's the important thing. People are unwilling to accept or admit that he isn't dismissive of people, but of poorly worded ideas. People seem to post here with the opinion that an idea that seems cool, or makes sense to them should be enough to convince someone else, and that simply isn't the case. All Swami does is ask people to give reasons why he should believe their propositions, and I don't think that's unreasonable at all

Personally, I admire Swami's work on here, and often if I see a thread like "I CAN SEE THROUGH TIMEEE!!!!!!1111" I'll skim it while looking around for that little reclining ladies avatar, because I know that will mark the start of a meaningful discussion.

I just feel like, that without Swami, or others willing to demand proof and promote skepticism, this board would basically be full of threads like

shoomeryperson1: What if... what if... what if you could tell the future by throwing darts at my big composite picture of Bob Marley hitting a spliff?
shroomeryperson2: That would so rock
shroomeryperson1: OMG, I threw a dart, and it hit a picture of him getting high, and i'm about to get high!
shroomeryperson2: This poster contains the secret to life.

Now Swami, or someone of his ilk, would post asking why these people thought this, and would point out that it's often good to have defensible reasons for radical, life affecting beliefs.

My thoughts anyway

He might be on vacations :sun:...
Some people hate him, others love him and he doesn't even need to be here.... Swami, you just became an idol man. You should start a cult
Anyway, i think some people should take a break from Swami, as he has taken a break from some of us.

should weapons of mass destruction be unleased on foggy notions of any kind?
- without asking for international support
what is the difference between a dumb blonde and the average poster at S&P?

is there a way of looking at anything that can be considered valuable without sources?

when is a simple consideration supposed to be the final solution?

>>> If you pay attention, most people who dislike him, just werent able to let go of their beliefs, and accept they might be wrong.<<<

This is incorrect. Skepticism is also a belief.

That is a paradox, as well, because anybody could say 'Swami must dislike me because he won't accept that he MIGHT BE wrong!'

Oh, ferago2 cheers for the faith in your fellow shroomery members! Not!
