Has anyone tried Daltons Coir Briquette for coconut coir substrate? I opened a brick and it smells a bit like mold ๐Ÿคจ

I have, mixed with horse poo and pastuerised. As coir, it's very coarse, so it was hard to achieve a smooth surface. It still worked, but much better to go with fine coir if you can.

How did you pasteurize it?

There are two Dalton products - the bigger 45L block marketed as coir mulch and the small brick (coir briquette). I'm using the small briquette which is much finer than the mulch block. I have very little experience with coir - should it be even finer than this?

Is there a brand you recommend?

Thanks

I hydrate the coir to field capacity, put it in XL oven bags (double-bagged for strength), then almost fully submerge it in water in my Presto 23qt (or any large stock pot), slowly bring it up to pasteurisation temp (~77โฐC), and hold it there for an hour.

To measure the temperature, I use an oven thermometer with the probe placed in the centre of the coir. I also use cable ties around the bag opening to prevent more water from getting in, and some weights to keep the bag submerged. There are also simpler methods such as bucket pasteurisation that others might recommend.

Go to any hydroponics store and grab a bag of coir there, e.g. Canna or Terra.

I've bucket tek that Bunnings coco coir and it has been fine but it's dirty stuff, I've found large chunks of salt in it.

Nutrifield coco coir is what I use and reasonably priced, and better qaulity than the Bunnings bricks.

Syringes, scalpel & blades, cryo vials, screw cap test tubes and blunt needles etc, I get from Aliexpress or Temu but the locally available 600 pack petri dishes are way nicer and cheapest overall.

You sure it was salt not sand?

I was wondering what the white shit in the daltons brick was ๐Ÿ˜‚
I wasn't brave enough to investigate further.

I'll pick up some Nutrifield tomorrow (the only brand my local hydroponic store has in stock)... but I think I'll stick to the bucket tek - I'm too lazy to be boiling it up on the stove for an hour.

Thanks team

Has anyone bought / used the Miraculix Qtest psilocybin potency/concentration tests?
I'm keen to buy some, but there are only very limited international shipping options.

Do you think they'd be any risk in importing them if customs was to check the package? They don't contain psilocybin, but they clearly say they are for testing psilocybin on the packet.

Thx

Hi team NZ,

I'm desperatly desperate as a desperate thing to get back to cultivating. It seems I drastically overestimated how long things keep in the fridge and all the FB contacts/groups I once knew have apparently gone away.

Ideally I'm after TAT plates but at this point I'll take anything I can get! Only interested in domestically sourcing. Any help would be amazeballz
