Just stopping by to say hi and intro my self. I am new to cultivating. I used LSD 20 years ago and found it very helpful. Now feeling the call to revisit the psychedelic world once again.

My first grow was on BFR cakes. Starting with a liquid culture I purchased off from ToR Market. The grow was very successful, netted ~15g dry. However, the experiences were lackluster. I started off with 1g and increased each time with a couple of weeks between attempts. By the last attempt I finished off what I had and it must have been 6g or more! That got me on the way to a trip but still very mild compared to the single tabs of LSD I took back in the day. I feel like I did everything right - I immediately dried the harvest with a dehydrator to cracker-dry then powdered in a grinder, then vacuum sealed the powder. The only thing I can think of was that I made the powder too fine thus exposing it to air with the greater surface area. I may have just left it in the grinder too long it was an insanely fine powder.

I am now on to my second grow, a kind of shoe-box arrangement with rye grain. I have harvested and dried the first flush (~10g cracker dry). This time I just vacuum sealed them whole. Yet to try them! I'd like to post some pics but I don't like taking photos on my phone with them getting synchronized here there and everywhere.

I've also been playing around with liquid cultures and no-pour agar. All a lotsa fun!

I'd like to do some LC or print swaps if anyone is keen. I am not game enough to get things shipped internationally to my home address because that falls under importation in MUDA.

Uppdate in case it helps somoneone else starting out (wrong thread I know, oh well). I finally had some successs. It took 6.6g to get me off the ground. 3.3 + another 3 about an hour later. It was a great first propper trip. That was two weeks ago. Yesterday I went 4g (this time made sure hadn't eaten for 2 hours). I could feel it but after 45mins took another 3g. Still took another 45 mins+ before I was fully airborne but after that it was beautiful smooth sailing. No major visuals but a solid, beautiful and meaningful trip. So not sure if it's me or the genetics I have but it seems 7g is a good base level for me to build on. A bit surprising to me because most people talk about 7g as stratospheric.

Next time 8g right from the outset rather than topping up after a while of waiting.

Hey gang,

Was re-reading the amazing sub cultivation post by the legendary Olive https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14553921/fpart/3/vc/1
Unfortunately that thread hasn't had activity in almost 2 years, so though my chances were better asking the locals here.

In above post, Olive had great success with tubs inside his 'sub nursery' which he previously used for growing dope plants. Anyone have any thoughts on how and what the 'sub nursery' was constructed with? Any ideas on how to reproduce something similar? Is it really a makeshift greenhouse, why do we think this method worked so well where there was zero fruiting success with the outdoor patches (aside from the strawberry patch)

Should be a makeshift green house to keep the temperature at 15-25'C with humidity, the kind of conditions that bacteria, fungy and mold like. Same weather conditions as Spring/Autumn.

There is a New Zealand wood lovers thread, the bro just found some actives, blended lots with water, and poured it on the bark that he had set up (with a black weedmat underneath to catch the water and to heat it up, the next season he had mushrooms in the back yard).

Hi all,

Contaminated agar plates

So with this batch of agar I used wild sub stem butts, and things have gotten pretty ugly with the contam.
Will be trying again with just fresh spore prints again soon

I figure I've got a few options:
1. Dispose
2. Empty entirety out into outdoor woodchip beds
3. Try and seperate the good myc and stem butts and empty out into outdoor woodchip beds (looks tricky given the contam level)
4. Other idea?

Trying to isolate anything from those plates will end in pain if you don't have your agar Tek down.

If you have fresh mushroom fruits, agar plates and an SAB or better, you can use either the needle biopsy method or tear a fruit along the stem and extract some of the interior flesh with a flame sterilized scalpel to agar. . .

Pretty easy once you get there hang. I get about 75% success without significant contamination.

For a 'needle biopsy' method, search for the 'josex poke'. I'm on mobile and being lazy or I'd post the link.

Also, once wrapped, store your plates in the fridge. This helps our natives out compete contams and gives them much more of a fighting chance.

Hey there, very new to this.

Just made this account 10 minutes ago as a matter of fact.
I was wondering what you guys use for bulk substrate in New Zealand, I'm probably going to go with coir and vermiculite since this is my first grow and everyone says that's the easiest. But I'm unsure of what brands of coir and vermiculite are good here. I don't want to wind up with the Trichoderma stuff everyone says you shouldn't have.
I have a bunch of barley on hand, do you think I should just give that a go?

Heya, and welcome.
Nothing wrong with 100% coir with or without a casing of verm. As you said, it's the easiest. If you have access to horse poo, you can also try using that 50/50 with the coir. Any coir you can get from a hydroponics shop should do. Just make sure to pastuerise everything well. Verm can be found at Mitre 10 or Bunnings. The brand doesn't matter. If you're going to use it as a casing layer, it'll need to be sterilised first.

I haven't used barley before but it should work. Wheat is another good option and it's reasonably cheap in NZ. I prefer working with rye, but it's a bit more expensive. Straight oats didn't really do it for me, but performed better when mixed with wheat or rye.

I'm super new to cultivation — I've recently returned to Aotearoa and have been gifted most of the equipment required. However, I'm struggling to find spores so that I can begin diving into the process.

Does anybody here have any advice for where I can acquire, trade, or buy some psilocybin spores? I'd like to start cultivating over summer and understand that the Golden Teacher species is a relatively safe starting place. I've also grown these before in Europe (although with a pre inoculated starter kit — so skipped all of the difficult work).

I've come across a couple of New Zealand based websites that are openly selling spores in syringes online and I've been tempted to try my luck — but it just feels a bit too risky tbh.

So any advice on obtaining some spores so I can get growing would be so appreciated! I know that waiting until foraging season is an option (and I will certainly explore this in time!) — but something more the meantime is what I'm searching for at the moment.

We have a kiwi cult thread!

In case anyone from NZ comes across this thread.

The first post is outdated regarding supplies.

For Agar, Telephone brand from the Asian grocery store is probably the cheapest locally available option still, otherwise you can use Eurogold from Woolworths but it is more pricey.

For grain I use Wheat, it is often on special for $45 for 2 x 20kg bags at Farmlands.

Otherwise it's $28 for 1 x 20kg at Farmlands or slightly cheaper at $26 for 1 x 20kg at PGG Wrightson.

Barley is another viable option only costing a couple bucks more per 20kg bags.

For jars, cheapest option is Kmart, they sell 3 x 500mL PP5 screw top containers here for $3.50 a pack.

Use a soldering iron to melt a hole through the centre and then rough up the surface around the hole with some sand paper before applying a filter or use polyfill, look it up.

I would not trust these Kmart containers for doing no modification lids.

Petri dishes, the cheapest way to purchase them is through Delta Education, a box of 600 x 90mm Petri dishes costs $139 plus shipping which adds about $50 to $60 depending on where you are located.

Also, keep an eye on Delta's clearance section, I brought heaps of 2nds media bottles for $3 each but none available at the time of posting.

Where do you get syringes from? For LC etc.


I've recently purchased jars from BridgeTradeNZ on trade me, 10 for 35, and they super good quality.

I got grow bags from temu, which seem okay, and some petri dishes - they showed up being 30mm, so not very helpful.

I usually use Detla for lab supplies.

You two recently sent me some prints BTW- they're going well. Should be getting the frist flush soon

I'm newish to the forum. Been at the grow thing for a few months now. Against all odds I managed to clone one little APE fruit from a contaminated bag and turn it into two yields (and one on the way).

Just chiming in about more places to get supplies. Op shops are a good source for agee/perfit jars, Ali Express/Ebay are good sources for petri dishs (if you don't want to get a box of 600), PTFE filters, media bottles, and other sundries.
Also seconding wheat as a good grain option here. You'll see Americans mostly using rye, and it is great, but wheat does the job and is much cheaper for us here.
