Heya guys, long time no see! i've been going strong since my last showing here, and everything is mint, i'll also let you guys in on some personal information, i've stopped taking anti depressants and been micro dosing shrooms since, i'll never look back!
Why i am here tho is that i have had contamination be more of a thing more and more often, so i was wondering if anyone had any good info on making a flow hood for somewhat cheap here in NZ.
Cheers.

You’ll be looking at $1200 ish buying locally. . . I looked at camfil who have adequate h14 hepa panel filters. . . Though h13 may be adequate in most circumstance. . .
I also looked at nz.rs-online for centrifugal blowers . . .
Then trademe had a miracle, that a mate miraculously saw, and amazingly knew I was looking. . .
$600 for a lightly used box, beautifully built by a cabinet maker. . .
Never going back. . . Still have contams, but those are due to user error. . . Made a major fuckup that ended in seas of green. . . All good learning though. . . One day I’ll ‘get’ it. . .

Really useful info here!
For others starting out, here a couple of available things available at the moment:
300ml wide mouth jars - $7 for 6 https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/living-co-preserving-jar-300ml-6-pack/R2547713.html
The USA style quart jars are around, but seem very expensive.
Syringe and large gauge needles (16-25) https://www.craftrunner.co.nz/syringe-and-needle
For pressure cookers - I went round and round in circles, and it really seems the cheapest option that has the required 15psi is the 23 Quart Presto one on Amazon (plus shipping here). Unfortunately it is out of stock at the moment.

Dude. . . From capes medical 10mm syringes are 18c each. 100 needles for $5.19. . . Ex. GST. . . Nice to be able to buy singles, though for he price of 6 needles you get 100
Shipping was 10 bux, so makes sense if buying 100 needles and 10 syringes. . .
If you do buy a pressure cooker however, you probably won't need needles and syringes. . . I haven't used more that 10 needles, and now don't use them at all. . .
Keep an eye on trademe for jars. . . They pop up from time to time for $1-2. . . You can buy brand new 1L perfit (ex. Agee) jars for $5.20 at pak-n-save, and many people try to sell agee for $6 each

Hey guys, I have been trying to figure out a place to buy spore prints overseas that will single envelope post to NZ but the supplier I found suggested in another thread, I emailed to ask if NZ was a place they'd post to and as yet have not had a reply So I'm hoping on a long shot someone has a suggestion that might be better than what I've looked at so far. TIA and hopefully everyone is doing ok with the recent covid cock up

Don't know if it is helpful to anyone but I just got an order of plastic petri dishes from interlab and fantastic price and they were here in about 3 days even with this covid bollocks going on! I bought a case of 500, 1 room sterile, the total incl GST and shipping came out around $105. They are in stacks of 12 and nicely bagged ready to go (as you would expect from a lab suply) and as yet not one broken one. For comparison crescendo is where I by single sleeves of 20 (total of 5 for 100 dishes is what I had bought) and my last order of 5 sleeves came out to $48 incl GST + P&P. I ran the numbers and the interlab cost per dish is $0.22 ($4.40 total cost per sleeve) and the crescendo cost per dish $0.48 ($9.60 total cost per sleeve). So you can really save some money if you are buying petridishes.

Interesting. . . My last 5 sleeves from crescendo were $20 though I paid cash, and picked up . . That would still be $100, so 105 deliverred is awesome.
Interlab moved on price with glass petri also. . .came in cheaper than crescendo. . .

Yeah I was over the moon! And at the rate I keep filling mine up lol these 500 will def be put to good use in no time. I thought initially that 100 was way more than I needed and yet went through them in under 2 weeks doh. I have to say though, comparing prices is a must because though crescendo were the best for sleeves, the others who only sell in cartons of 500 or 600, depending on where you are and if you have to have them shipped, can be a great deal more affordable. I am going to start getting new glassware next as I can afford it, cause though what I have works, I am sure it is more comfortable using for purpose gear

Glass petri are awesome, if you are diligent enough to clean when finished. . .
I have 24 75mm and 24 100mm borosilicate. I sterilise petri as I do an agar run. . .
Ask both who will sharpen their pencil, and prices drop. . .
2 years in and I’m almost paid back my investment in glass. . .
Must be time to retire. . .

I have one of the circular stack-able jobs, and it does the trick pretty well. It can be a little noisy but if you can live with the low hum it is a good option. I have had mine for a while and I can't remember what I paid tbh, but at the moment they are at briscoes on sale for $139. It is the sunbeam one that has 5 trays from memory. Hope that helps.

I have an Excalibur dehydrator. . . Expensive but AWESOME!
Square, rear fan dehydrators work much better than the circular top fan models.
I have a Sunbeam foodsaver vac pack machine works well. You can source bags from a few suppliers in NZ cheaper than brand bags.

What size excal? I'm looking at the 5 tray digital. Just can't tell if it's going to be big enough.
I was looking at the foodsaver, but I think I've settled on the sico 250. It's 5x the cost but looks more versatile in terms of packaging types and more robust. I'm a bit of a buy it for life type.

I picked up a Maxkon dehydrator from ebay last year for about $150. It's square, has five trays, a rear fan, and adjustable heat and time. It's awesome, but it looks like the price has gone up.
On a different subject, after a wee hiatus and a few failed batches, I'm happy to be back in business.
