I feel like it’s just the name with smelly.  Like if it was dubbed “updated agar sandwich method”, it’d be aight

I just see it as a huge time saver.  Why spend weeks trying to get clean growth through eyeballing transfers when there’s a really good chance you’ll clean it up in one?

Im running everything through a cabin.. clones I take that look clean, ms, everything.  I’m looking for great genetics.  If there’s even a chance that something is slightly baccy and that hinders great genetics from showing their true potential, why risk it.. for me personally, it’s a no-brainer.  Is it a cure-all? No, but from what I’ve witnessed from doing a pretty large amount of them, it’s a great technique and I think my future grows are gonna show that.

I just think it’s funny. Not people using it, but that some lab guys figured out a technique people have been using for years and renamed it to something silly.

I’m pretty sold on its efficacy for those in need. Personally I’m not sure how much utility it has for my grow? Maybe I need to build some cabins for my cultures that insist on microfruiting. Might help them along?

Actually, scalloping aside, I have some things I could CS process to see if they improve. Maybe I’ll give that a go 👍

I hope no one sees me as a legitimate hater. I mean I hate the name, yes. You can see me as a hater of that.

For me it ultimately boils down to a big pet peeve of mine in this hobby. Renaming processes that already exist.

I did come up with a truly revolutionary new tek. It’s called “Rapunzel Sequestering,” or “Fiona Sequestering,” depending on how cultured you are.

Basically you use a tall half pint, build a tower out of agar, plate your transfer at the top, and look for rhizo growth down the sides of the tower. Once it reaches the bottom, you can then take your sample and move it to the next plate.

Which will be a moat sequester. I think you can guess what that might be.

I’m into this hobby solely for the purpose of playing with genetics lol. Getting to the point where I can.

So for the most reliable crosses you’d want mon-mon mating? My ideal setup for me is gonna be diluting spores and sourcing monokaryots. Doesn’t seem extremely hard I think I can do that  by taking a spore swab. Then I grow out that mono and take a section from it and a section of a mono from another variety (sourced by spore)

This should create a dikaryot with genetics from both “parent fruits” correct?

I’m not worried about crossing varieties as much as I am selective breeding. So let’s say I have a fruit that typical colored and drops red spores and one that’s albino and drops clear spores.

The cross should result in a spectrum of fruits with varying genetics from both parties? At some point one that’s white with red spores should pop up, then you’d clone and print that?

Then you’d grow that clone and you should have all white fruits with red spores, and if you don’t you take the “parent albino red spore” mono and mate pair it with a fresh mono from the t2 and that should help “lock in” the genetics? More cloning and inbreeding may be needed?

I’ve seen threads of others saying they’ve done mon-di mating. Is this mixing a mono with a culture and hoping it mates? Can you do di-di mating as well? I’m assuming the accuracy and confirmation of crosses is easier when dealing with monos?

Genetically everytime a mushroom grows it creates spores which mesh the 2 genetics in the dikaryot mycelium into a mono? Assuming you’re gonna loose some genetics from both parents this way? So I may want to experiment with multiple monos from 1 mushroom?

You should really just get some entry level fungal biology under ur belt.

Ed grand has some decent YouTube videos

Di-mon mating is also known as buller phenomenon and the dikaryon donates one of its nuclei to the monokaryon

Di-di is probably not a thing but it could be in rare cases. But there are things that can happen where it would appear that two dikaryons mate

Have you read fahts thread, or muad.dweebs threads?

Faht do you still have that plate?? I’m pretty curious if whatever contam was in there would eventually travel through the mycelium over the wall or if it’s legitimately stuck in there.

Was watching a bunch of Ed Grand videos and read fhats thread and a few of the others. That’s what inspired me to make that post. I prefer videos but I’ll read a thread if I have to. The format here hurts my eyes lol.

Honestly I figured this was the next stepping stone for me. I don’t document everything by here, and sometimes act like an idiot, it’s my ✨ personality ✨. But I’ve got a good amount of Petri transfers grows observing and identifying mycelium and basic mycology under my belt. Most my experience is specific to cubes but I also have some biology background  and I figured messing with the genetics of some cubes really was the next step for entry level fungal biology unless ur saying I should work with another non active species to learn?

The red spore thing was merely just an example. My goals aren’t so ambitious right now just getting into it lol. But that is how it works right? At least when ur mating spore germinations? Is is plausible for me to do that with proper technique and spore dilution?

Fuck that guy.

The one time I came across something from him it was him trying to claim serial dilution as a new breakthrough called “the trademarked Dr Ed method”. Then when I said it wasn’t new he freaked out.

I get these guys have to constantly rehash shit to create more content but come on.

yes ur on the right track.. pastys thread about RW is a good one. ed grand dilutes by just streaking look for grab n drag tek or something. ed just streaks in a fashion that produces monokaryon colonies

alan has a good video about serial dilutions

i mean. theres not much videos about this stuff, its good to see demonstrations. but ya ed is a goofball but that doesnt mean he doesnt know what hes talkin about either

i meme on ed all the time but i can still respect the knowledge

bro was probably joking tho i think everyone even noobs are aware serial dilution has been done since like the 1800s so lol either way. he does have decent videos that show examples instead of reading it which is what the op said is preferred

Yeah I’m gonna read the RW thread completely and a lot more into these breeding projects for some reason i couldn’t find that stuff through the search. Not until I seen it linked on recent threads or to me. Definitely searched for it.

The video I watched he used a surfactant and water to dilute the spores over and over until it was a very small amount and used a grid on his dishes. That seems so fool proof and doable in a SAB to me (I’ll be using small jars with holes and fresh syringes) everything should be able to stay very sterile. But yeah thanks for the confirmation I guess reading coulda gave me that but rewording stuff helps me learn stuff if that makes sense.

I got a few cultures going right now. I wanna incorporate enigma genetics like the enigma rw project. That inspired me and I’m sure there’s lots of funky genetics inside enigma. But I can’t wrap my head around getting a mono from that, besides doing something like Fhats thread was talking about. I have a theory with using Deamascus earth but its water soluble so the mycelium would need to be suspended in something that won’t dissolve it lol.

But I think to dip my toes in I’m just gonna take 2 fruits from my next grow with the biggest caps and collect monos from them. If I can successfully do that I’ll try to get them to clamp on a dish and see if the next generation has all big caps. And continue on until I get the biggest capped mushroom lol.

I mean I don’t see how that would get you to big caps faster than just regular breeding

Diatomaceous earth is not water soluble.

Yeah that was another bad example. And I swear last night when I was looking into it google said it was but you right so that’s a decent idea honestly. This shit gets my dick hard and sometimes I think with my dick and not my brain and end up stepping on it 😂 yeah just selecting the biggest caps would do that idk what I was thinking. I guess it’s more useful for crossing varieties.

Curious as to what genes are dominant and recessive. What mutations we haven’t seen yet lol. Are there lots of people just crossing any and everything and observing the results? I haven’t heard anything of hyper pigmented fruits and I bet that mutation is tucked away somewhere lol.
