Thank you for the reply baba! I do have some fresh spore swabs of TTBVI coming from a sponsored vendor, so if this culture doesn't work out I'm not heartbroken about it.

I haven't tried the trenching technique, but I am familiar with making brf pucks and have all the equipment for that.

Could you provide more information about the swab swap procedure? By empty plate, do you mean a sterilized plate with 0 agar, or just a fresh blank plate? Also, what exactly is swab swap?

Even if I have spores coming, I'd still love to learn new techniques.

Would yall make new coir if your bucket tek didnt have enough water. I was breaking up a couple handfuls of dry chunks next day and added more water.

Should be good. If that happens to me I add some more water, if it comes out too wet I add some verm. Just make sure that the stuff needing proper pasteurization is on point.

Lol, sorry. That was a typo which I have edited out now. I meant to say just "swab". Its just like the trenching technique in principle but you place a wedge onto an empty plate and wait for the mycelium to grow across the bare plastics and then transfer it to a new agar plate. I remember someone doing this in glass jars but I can't remember who, feel like it was smelly hobbit or yoshi trainer.

Thanks baba! I'll probably do both. Do the empty plate, grab some mycelium, transfer to agar, let it grow a bit and then put that in a trench'd brf puck. If for nothing else than to try something new!

Edit: I'm just saw that the linked thread is with trenched agar, so I guess I can save a step

Wow. I'd read about placing a wedge on the empty side of a half-poured agar plate and letting it reach out to colonize the agar on the other side, then transferring from there, but what you're doing is beautifully simple. Thanks for sharing.

TBH I only have used BRF pucks so far and have not tried the trenching or empty plate method yet :blush:

Pans are still mostly a mystery to me and like to buck convention, the fact I’m growing in tubs might have something to do with it also.
