LewDoja, do you think FLHX is lying about just starting plates? Or is that a compliment to him that I didn't catch?

He's talked with me some and is certainly asking the right questions for a curious noob who wants to be a quick learner.

He does have great looking plates, even not for a noob, but it's possible. Some people just get shit right, especially people who follow directions without "improvising" the first time like many people.

I've noticed this a lot with engineers. (I don't know that he is one though)

For example, a person who's trained as a software engineer or electrical engineer can sometimes do a project and do every aspect of it nicely the first time.

Like designing and building a computer-driven device from scratch, then building a nice case for it, doing nice lettering on it, writing a good manual for it, etc

As for plates in fridge, I've revitalized one after 11 months. Just stored in a zip lock baggie, upside down, so water doesn't condense on the agar, and kept the fridge just above freezing. Checked in summer, had to turn the fridge down a tiny bit to keep at 34F.

I must have developed a special talent to transform rhizo growth into tomentose at this point :rofl:
Some x7x+ T2 that look healthy but tomentose.



I will start trying agar recipes with 3-4% brf as nutes since going 2% and lower only gave me weaker growth. At 0.5% the myc was almost invisible. I’m also going to start using a new agar supplier instead of the “dessert/food” agar I used in previous batches so maybe that helps as well.

I just hate that the same myc looks beautifully rhizo in brf pucks and grain but shit in agar.

I just noticed he said autoclavable,
To which mine unfortunately are not.

60s seem like they'd be good for that.  Just think all of things you'd be able to aquire to hold them.

I don't think they can be autoclaved, but I PC agar mix then pour plates.

It says 100 mm but they sent out 90 mm in my order this year, still fine. Too much hassle to return and I don't care.

I didn’t realize that would change the title of the thread. I’m sorry for doing that. It was unintentional. I know now. Won’t happen again. Lesson learned.

As far as the plates go I recently had to start from scratch.
I was using LC and didn’t realize it was all contaminated so I switched to agar. I had to throw everything out and start from scratch so I shopped some new cultures and got them as research plates. The plates I got in the mail were gorgeous.

When I received the plates, I made transfers so I could grow some new plates to use to knock up some grain spawn jars.

The pictures are the first plates I poured myself and transferred from the new shopped plate. So the rhyzomorphic growth was already like that on the original plate.
I thought they looked really good too. Not bad for the first time I did a transfer, but the culture had already been….  Not sure the right term for it….  Nurtured or isolated to have the spoke wheel looking mycelium.
I think your comment about me possibly lying is because they look really cool, right?  It’s because the original plates I took a transfer from had that wagon wheel spoked look to it as well.

It was never my intention to pass the plates off as a culture I isolated and nurtured myself. It it comes across that way it is unintentional. I just wanted to show what I meant by it being fully colonized. The credit should go to the vendor the plates came from.

I’m still too new to get results like that on my own, like getting a culture to go from tomentose growth to rhyzo growth.
I posted pictures because I wasn’t sure about storage. That should tell you all you need to know about my level of experience.


I hope that clears things up.
The last thing I wanna do is pull some sketchy shit like take credit for something I didn’t do. This site has been invaluable to me. It’s important that I maintain a respectable and honest reputation since I plan on utilizing this resource as heavily in the future as I do now, and because that’s the way you’re supposed to act anyways.

If I made some sort of breach of etiquette by not explaining that when I originally posted the pictures, it was unintentional.  I wasn’t aware.

You are good my friend.

Changing the the subject and getting called out on it is practically a right of passage here. It is an easy mistake to make and not really obvious until someone notices and says something. The Moderators and the person who creates a thread can lock the subject, but I think that is a new(er) feature so it has not been fully implemented everywhere. The Cronic-meister has locked it for this thread now.

I am pretty certain that the Lew Ninja was just admiring your prodigy level start at agar. Even from LC it take some skills and patience to learn everything you need know to get to plates as pretty as yours. Good on you for taking the time to learn and do it right from the start.

Please do edit your post above to remove vendor information, though.
