This post was written a few hours ago, it is super informative about recognizing contamination on agar. Compare what you have on this plate to the pictures of troubled areas mentioned in the post:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29052121

I think you will agree that what you have doesn't look like cube mycelium.

Nice write up.

Here's another guide. It's far more extensive. It's 12 years old but still very solid. Covers every stage; plates, jars, and tubs:

I have the same plastic cups! Do you have any issues opening them? I feel opening them is hard af inside my sab

You made holes in them? Or just pc them slightly open?

Here’s my x7x+ T2, will take some transfers to better agar today or tomorrow

clone tissue transfer from a few days ago

thought it looked maybe ok. but close up shows scalpel marks from the flailing technique, and little amber beads of what I guess is bacteria. barely discernable with the naked eye, spotted with magnification.

now can't unsee lol. time for a transfer was yesterday

I let my projects languish for a while. Had to transfer from old over grown dishes. I feel pretty good about these tamps and "India wood lover" plates. The x7x+ and FP+ I was working both look kinda fucky though. Gonna go back to spore with those I guess.

x-post

Over 2.5 year old PE on dried wheat grains starting to recover after 6 days on agar. Pretty stoked to see that this is an option that does work.

Fahtster literally just posted a better answer in the Stasis storage thread that I will share here.
fahtster said:
Noice.  It really is pretty great.  All my masters fit in a qt ziplock in swab packs with like 15ish grains per.  Every time I take a clone, I clone to 4oz grain jars to double check cleanliness before g2g’ing that to qts and when I do that, I leave like a 1/4 tsp of grains in the 4oz jar.  I have adjustable ge lids for the 4oz jars that I can expose most of the lid area and put that jar with a little bit of grains in front of a fan and they’re dry in like 3-4 days.  So every clone I take immediately has been backed up on dry grains and in a swab pack before the qts are even done colonizing.  If the clone ends up shit, I just toss the swab packs

It’s a pretty great system

I was just giving it a try back then and didn't put that much thought into it. I just recapped the grain jar with a regular modified lid after spawning to substrate. There are usually a few grains left behind. I set the jar aside for a month or so. Then when they seemed dry they were put into cryo tubes dry and placed in a drawer for a few years.

I have had bad luck with dried grain and the little baggies of agar wedges if they are mail when the temperature is really high. So I would recommend making sure that they never get over 37c(100f). But other than that, it looks like a nice method of genetic back up for a couple of years at least.
