This is how I like to do prints too, except with 10cm^2 foil squares for wrapping candies (or shroom chocolates) to avoid fumbling trying to cut foil nicely. Although, truth be told, I tend to print onto Petri dishes when I can't be bothered to set up a rack :wink:

So many plates and tipps to feed on :mushroom2:

Here's some of my latest results to share. Put all of it to grain and by now got tubs going for all of them apart from the B+ because I was still wary of those. Will post updates if there's contam or so. Had some intense metabolites on some of my PES Hawaiian grain that may well suggest a bacterial contamination (see this post and or last pic of grain)

I just PC’ed my first No pour PP5 plastic cups and they warped a little on the bottom so the agar has a few thinner portions, they should still be good it use or should I redo the whole process?

Thinner and thicker agar can make the mycelium grow differently slightly. But as long as they're sterile they'll work fine.

Is caramelizing/overcooking sugars a myth?

Hi everyone
I see some of you warning not to PC the agar more than 20-30 mins.
The reason being that the sugars might caramelize or something.

Is this true or a myth? Has anyone confirmed this?

If it is so, is it valid for every nutrient source.

I'm thinking it might be valid for a simple sugar like maltose in MEA but not so much for complex starches like if we do a BRF yeast agar like the one Seeker uses.

For some reason I seem to be getting less contamination if I PC my no pours longer than 30 mins and I'm wondering if I can go an hour with all types of agar and not worry about fucking it up.

This is why I'm pedantic about shit, the noobs are too easily confused/lead astray.

Just google caramelization temps, you'll quickly discover it's a non issue. When in doubt, look under the profile avatar for the trusted cultivator tag. As mentioned by every TC posting in this thread, you can sterilize for longer than 20-30 mins.

drVetker, you can do searches here for answers only by TCs. Info on that, and saving a search to make it easy to reuse (including limiting to last 5 years for a lot of it) is here.

There are other users here who are solid who are not TCs, but you can't usually go wrong with a TC answer.

Picax, day 8 of spores sliced into agar, looking like happy caterpillars. I'm going to transfer T1 tonight. Will also keep these going, maybe send one to grain when full, certainly close back up and keep for plins to clone. These will be rhizo once transferred.

i saw that some people use films on their dishes, what for i have no idea, so would i need a "film" thingy for these dishes?

You might be thinking about parafilm, which is used to seal petris. You can use parafilm, cling wrap, or place them in a fresh ziplock bag.

I keep unused plates in a ziplock.  Seal up after you use them.

I, and some others here, use clear wide plant grafting tape, then tape it with micropore tape. It's cheap on eBay. Pic of plates like that right above your post, here:

It's not. It's really quick. I use about 3 turns around with grafting and 1 turn around with micropore.
