Thanks :bashful:

That AMZ on the bottom pic looks alright or it's also just organized mold? I don't know maybe it's some German mold.

I think all of that shit is just trash except the AMZ and the rhizo obviously.

They all look fine I'm just fucking with you

If you look at that under a microscope on low power, like 40x, or even a strong magnifying glass, organised tomentose is basically rhizo with really small rhizos.

I'm still looking for good low power reference pictures for cube myc. Send some my way if you have any, 40x is perfect, I can do up to 55x without having to do slides.

I've only done spores. I've looked at mycelium and it just looked like thick. I need to try again and pull it apart first with a scalpel to get to near single strands, or at least single layer. I've seen good micro-photos of it though.

Here's some by Roger Rabbit from 14 years ago, single strand:

Here's some of various species of mushroom (some cubes) mycelium at various magnifications:

I made a little mistake with my plates. They got full of water in the PC, so I wiped them out with an alcohol soaked paper towel in front of the FFU before pouring. But now I realize that might have been a bad idea.

Did I ruin my batch (again)?

Every once in a while someone has a spore giveaway on the marketplace of something they found unlabeled, or mislabeled from a vendor, and give it away as unknown "mystery cubes" or "mystery spores." Those usually are claimed very slowly.

Someone also found one of those, gave it a fun name and it's become quite popular on here.

Fine either way, but funny.

Was different when I was young. I remember on game shows people picked the mystery prize more often than not.

Call it TP629 (tri polar, and today's date) haha

Completely stupid question but whatever, I prepared an agar bottle 2 days ago but never actually sterilized it. Any reason I should pour it out and make a new one? The only thing I can think of is increased contam load that has been germinating in there, but it's a liquid so it should  be easy work to kill it. Malt extract is supposed to be non diastaltic so it shouldn't ferment or fuck up the nutes/enzymes since all that shit has allegedly already happened before they cooked it and dried it.

Very academic, jump on it nerds.:howyoudoing:

I'd make it obvious that it's tongue in cheek though.

....so it doesn't look like that thing that unscrupulous spore vendors used to do, and sometimes still do: either renaming existing varieties, or taking spores from a mutant (without taking the year or more to select for a stable variant) and calling it a new "strain."

And I was half kidding. But half serious. Do it.

I'm no microbiologist but I'd sterilize it and use it.

Bacteria has been growing ... but the PC will kill them all, and after just 2 days I bet that their waste products won't be so concentrated as to harm mycelium. (Heck I have grown LC that had robust myc growth AND robust bacterial growth.)

Some nutes would have been consumed too, but how much? I bet not enough to matter.

So I say go for it... And then give us an update.

Just my two cents, which is worth maybe one cent.

This is a T0 plate, started with cloned tissue from a melmac fruit.

This plate is 12 days old now. I’m confused about the outer translucent ring. It’s all very symmetrical and orderly but there’s two distinct types of growth: the inner mycelial-looking band and the outer translucent ring.

What do I do with that plates like this? I also see it on my agar to agar transfers, not just clone plates: an outwardly advancing, symmetrical ring of translucent growth. It doesn't look obviously bacterial or like mold.

Agar is 10g Telephone agar: 10g LME : 500ml H20

My God, you've grown a vagina.
This could be worth billions.

So if I don't see anything in a week, I can be 99% sure that they are uncontaminated? Is there an earlier point of 90% confidence?

This is malt extract agar (10g agar, 15g light malt extract, 500mL water). It was clear when I prepared it, but the dark specks always appear after pressure cooking, unfortunately.
