mixing alcohol and clorox can produce toxic gas.

Lysol is sticky, smells horrible, and leaves a bad smell for days.

Skip clorox and lysol and just use 70% isopropyl alcohol in a plastic spray misting bottle. That's what almost all of the people doing good work here use.

70% works best, not 90%.

There's some penicillin mold growing here. The big powdery white patch turning green on the left of the left one, and the little greenish circle on the top right of the right one.

Looks like you transferred from the right place, if there's any clean to transfer from. Not sure you'll get something clean.

I'd throw these out without opening again. Once penicillin is green it's spreading spores. You do not want that in quantity like this in your home.

Work your transfer, but also start over after reading up more on basic technique. Good link to good teks in my sig line.

There's also red bacteria colonies on the far right of the right one.

Your agar looks good though. Which recipe did you use?

If newcomers may apply intuition to your query then I'd choose the first plate at "10 o'clock" right inbetween the center and the outside but again I'm just getting a good vibe there...lol

penicillin is a contam if you're growing shrooms, and it's common.

I used pre-poured for the first few runs I did that worked.

Your pre-pour plates aren't peptone are they? That's commonly offered but increases chance of contams. Is for growing bacteria in labs.

When you get clean plates with pre-poured, this agar works well for me. Also some tips there that may help anyway. You can skip the charcoal at first.

Interesting. The plates are from a mushroom company so I doubt they have peptone. My house is very leaky and mouldy so I moved out of the bathroom for my transfers. So far my 5 new plates have 1 pinhead of contam that I can see, but it could still expose itself soon. The myc on the fastest is already dime-sized so I'm chuffed .

I read all your signature links, they're very useful and well written. I'm not ready to make the plunge for the PC as shipping is outrageous here. A 21L presto ends up at $330 USD haha.. However if I get deep into agar I could get a small 7 PSI one I suppose.
