Maybe yeast. Or penicillin about to turn green. Or anything, but those two spring to mind. The wrinkly center shape really looks like penicillin.

I'd tape it shut, see if it turns green, post a photo, then toss that cup without opening it. Trash it as is. Cups are cheap.

Rite people I need some advice

I have changed my agar plate recipe from
From potato flake -agar to LM agar

I've had good results with this
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27551422
and who needs clear plates when you can have black plates, and the black is also a nutrient?

I came across this thread while looking into my agar situation:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26308964

I also looked into the town where I’m living, and it has particularly hard water. Any opinions? Anyone think this might be causing me problems? This person seemed to be having the same problem as me.

Due to condensation from putting my grow stuff in the garage for a day, it's hard to tell, but looks pretty damn clean to me

So a question about activated charcoal.  Is there a specific kind of charcoal to use or not to use?  I wanted to try charcoal in my agar so I used activated charcoal capsules and did it turn out weird.  It kind of separated in PC and even some plates ended up looking like donuts with holes in center
So there's that. Also every one of them that I put anything on went weird AF also.

Any ideas? Oh ya every plate did this but did noncharcoal plates at the same time in the SAB and they came out clean?

I saw someone else post similar pics (to your top pic) once a while ago.

I have no explanation but you must have done something crazy like not mix it at all or used a whole lot or something?

I only use the smallest little bit these days. Works great.

That might be it I put like 12 capsules in 600 ml of media

I had results similar to this. Cutting back on charcoal and stirring it in in a pot on the stove to fully dissolve it gave great results.

Thanks

Okay, we're going to see how these iffy plates grow on millet.

I'll compare these three jars to the previous seven jars I inoculated with plates of myc that were not so sectored and suspect looking.

Will potentially unhealthy plates yield unhealthy grain spawn, or will it all turn out about the same?

We shall see.

How necessary is agar to a lc?  I've been reading in the archives and most of them don't mention agar( I know they are old info) one was just karo and water and another was the norm lme and dextrose.  When I tried making lc with agar it formed a thin layer of agar(petri dish like) floating on the top.  Do I want this? Then when I swirl it breaks up the agar disk and is chunks of agar floating inside.  Is this right? What am I doing wrong?  Can I just use sterilized soak water and drop a piece of colonized agar into it? Thanks

You don’t add agar to an LC, you inoculate LC with a clean transfer from an agar culture.

Agar is not an ingredient in broth.

Only add agar if you're following this semi-solid liquid culture Tek.

A straight lc, you’re right. But sslc’s are much better in my experience. They coat the grains rather than just pooling at the bottom

I'm wanting to get into agar, seem to be having success so far but have bought deli cups. Wondering if the holes people drill in them are primarily for equilibrium of pressure vs for GE?

I'm wanting to try pouring these ones to see how it compares with the no pour that I have used up until now.

If your kids on the deli cups are PP your golden. I bought some once, the top and bottoms were diff plastics and the lids shrunk. No good.b Yup, I just use a 1/8" bit.

I'm looking to send one of these to a master slant and grain. Which of these 2 look the best? These are my best 2 of 10. Should I do another transfer before doing a master? These are 2nd transfer MS Tidalwave. The denser one looks like it has knots forming close to the center. I'm trying to cut down on the amount of duplicate cultures I have, so one gets to grow the other disappears.

Hey Guys!

I have a quick question if anyone can answer real quick please lol. It might sound dumb but I'm cloning my first mushroom with agar, and I'm confused on the process. If I put a raw mushroom on the agar plate wont the mushroom become moldy, and ruin the plate? I watched videos, and everyone is just cutting the inside of the mushroom and leaving it on the plate, but I just don't understand how the plate doesn't become moldy due to the shroom rotting just after a couple days without being dried.

That tissue sample doesn’t mold because it doesn’t die. You’re taking internal tissue, which isn’t (as) exposed to bacteria and external contamination and putting it in a clean environment to grow. Just like when you break up mycelium for spawn it doesn’t die and mold, it grows and reconnects. The fruit body tissue will form new mycelium.
