Is brewers yeast similar/the same as nutritional yeast?

Brewers yeast is a byproduct of making beer, it comes from malt.
Taste bitter, wife resistant. "brewer’s yeast is a byproduct of grain fermentation"

Nutritional yeast is made from sugarcane and beet molasses. It is
sweet, goes so good on popcorn my wife eats it all! But keeping her
high on B12 is worth it.

P-Nat doing what P-Nat does. Crawling up the side and onto the bottom of the top of the plate. I forgot about this plate. Maybe it's time to send it to grain.

Anyone have tips, tricks, methods, words of encouragement, etc for cleaning (I’m assuming) yeast from myc? I’ve done probably 6 or 7 germ plates, tried c10s streak method, taking little specks of myc with a needle and still no luck. Really want to grow these Mexicana but they are wearing my agar plates the hell out  I must have contaminated the prints at the beginning somehow. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe try putting them to a BRF puck Josex style? Those grains look dry as shit!

I've never tried it but have had 'water agar' recommended to me in the past with dirty plates. It's just water and agar, no nutrients. I think the theory behind it is that the myc will reach out in search of nutrients but the contaminates are basically stuck because there aren't any nutes that allows them to spread.

There's a method that uses glass tubes to do this that I've wanted to try, if you search "contamination glass tube" it is about halfway down the page WillSolvem is the poster I believe, he's got pictures etc posted. I don't know how to reference the post but if you need info PM me and I'll share it with you.

Found it with help from Spacebaby...

Found something looking through old plates.

It is labeled as a PE, but I had a labeling mishap some while ago and everything that think is PE turns out to be GT when I run it. So I am back to spores. Sucks because I had a clone that I really liked. Label carefully, folks!

Is it just me, or do my Alamo plates look off?  The mycelium seems to be very faint/whispy... Not really tomentose, not really rhizomorphic.  Plus, they are growing at least twice as fast as my Jack Frost and Texas White Cap plates.

And here's the plate I took the transfers from

And finally, this Jack Frost plate has a translucent ring around the growing mycelium.  Is that anything to be concerned about, or is that just the mycelium that hasn't filled in yet?  Thanks!

Really is a beautiful plate. Nice work labbar.

Thanks for the suggestions Myc and bigfoot. I may whip some stuff up tomorrow and see if I can get some separation.

That’s pretty cool Vandal. Wonder how well it works? The government start giving out free crack pipes yet? Might have to scoop one up for science.

Those look off to me as well teaker. The edges look really unorganized. Maybe some mold meshed in with those but I’d wait for someone more experienced to chime in. Never been a fan of the translucent ring. That always sketches me out.

If it makes you feel better, the mycelium that created the fruit that your spores came from looked just like that.

The speed would worry me though. Unless your JF and TWC are just slow? 😂

I'm no expert but if the gills are that dark and it hasn't dropped spores there's probably a pretty good chance it's PE

Looks like you need to increase your FAE though

That is a beautiful work of art. If not for the fruits it will provide, its such a shame to chop it up and throw it into jars.

@bigfoot: definately more fae...i think a few shop fans could help that out:rofl:

Guuuyz

It's agar and it's meant to be cut up and used, form vs function if you get me.
Not saying it's the case but don't get hung up on plate appearance.
