So the attempt to take a transfer of myc from a fruiting jar back to agar didn't go that well.

Hi there.
3 months ago I inoculated ~20 plates with APE swabs.

I grew one tub after making multiple transfers but also kept the germination plates.

About 10 plates are pinning now - the pins all look different.

What is this plate growing? This came from the same swab set as the rest of the plates.

These look like cauliflower.

Hey Joze - Technique was the same as usual. FFU, torch flame sterilized scalpel. Pretty sure the problem was the source. I didn't expect it to go well.

I had an extra jar of semperviva spawn that I was trying to top fruit with coir open air in a water tub. I haven't been able to get fruits with semp yet to clone and my spores are now old and reluctant. So I thought I would try scraping some mcy from the surface of the jar and transferring it to agar to clean up. The spawn is probably bad. Open air jar to agar is bad. Probably a handful of other bad steps in there as well.

I may try dumping the jar and see if I can get a biopsy from a chunk of consolidated grain spawn that I tear open in the flow like a fruit clone. I am just being stubborn at this point, but I like seeing post about what people try and fail at, too. If everything worked we wouldn't need this forum.

Well I just plucked a nice looking oat from a jar definitely going bad.
It worked after some transfers. This was an effort to save an old
culture from da fridge.

Is ovoid a strain of cubensis or a different species altogether? I have read that term before but never saw an explanation of what it is.

He didn't say "use the fucking search", he used the search FOR you.

People on here are more than happy to spend time walking people through things, but it's best to save those limited favors for after you can't find it on a quick search.

Saved by the swab! Did 6 plates with this swab and only got germination on the break off. Myc looks good to me so I'm gonna let it ride! :smirk:

Gotcha, yeah. Once you dump that coir on top I feel like you've lost all odds of a "clean" culture. Your idea of grabbing a piece of grain is a good idea. You could even try a hot pour if some mold starts popping up, the myc would certainly grow back through a thin layer of agar.

I understand that people get frustrated seeing the same questions pop up every day, but most of the newbie users aren't on here frequently and obviously haven't seen those same questions yet. Yeah, everybody should use the search function, but what's the point of a discussion board if people aren't allowed to post? If someone posts something and you think it's not worth your time to respond, just ignore it. It's so easy. No need to be an ass.
