Please excuse the condensation... I'm pouring just below 50*C and using a mug of hot water on top, leaving them in front of the hood for a couple of hours, but still they get all misty and wet. :wow:


These are the exact same results I've had before and after adding yeast. I know people say it isn't necessary, but the proof is in the pudding.

I like media bottles for certain things. As far as agar prep i like to use a plastic autoclaveable pitcher with a spout and handle. Just my preference. I've also stopped using plastic plates in favor of reusable glass ones. Ever consider using a pitcher vs a media bottle?

I actually get to post in the agar thread! Lol. I was gifted a couple mak plates (bk and tp).  I used the ole oven bag to do some transfers to glc grain jars and they’re taking off already.. probably knock up some qts in a week or so.

Ive not considered a pitcher no. You just foil over the top?

I kinda like the scientific vibe of the media bottles but a pitched for pouring a ton of plates at once would be nice i guess. Dont think ill go that big though.

As for glass petris ive considered im just lazy and also somewhat scared to imagine opening and cleaning out some of those dishes. Yes yes you pc them first to kill it off but thats a whole lot of ick and work.

Thanks, I got a couple different ape cultures on agar right now. This is definitely the nicest and very fast. I’m looking forward to seeing what it does in the long run. A plate from Last month already throwing chunker pins too.

The only way I ever got clear clear plates was to boil, blend with an immersion blender and use cheese cloth. I got the opposite direction nowadays and use straight black plates like D3m shows



It is an amazing tool for visibility.

Faht I'd really love to see more writeups on how you get stuff done. Your methods are a little out there and interesting af

If it's super gross mix up soapy water in your sink and open it under water so the spores don't release in the air.

It’s basically my oven bag cloning method but I just slide the iso’d plate into the bag, push all the air out and reseal.. then blow back up and do the transfers.. I dipped the agar pieces in 2 jars of sterile water before I put them in the grain jars.. sealed the jars and cut them out.. reclinged the plates

Kinda getting burnt out. Not specifically with must cult just irl, dealing with shit.

Makes it hard to pour plates and make transfers when you're stressed n having dark thoughts.

I'm struggling to get a uniform APE culture.

Even on T3 from swab, the growth is thick, dense, purely tomentose growth. It seems like there are a large amount of strains present.

How can I narrow down the genetics? I'm thinking either making a very small transfer or perhaps taking a transfer from the very edge of the growth where the mycelium is not visible to the naked eye

Another possibility is that I've been growing and transferring mold for the past 2 or so months.

I S2B'ed 2 x T1 APE jars today, hopefully to get a clone culture going.
