Re: OFFICIAL NSW Psilocybin Seasonal Actives 2021 [Re: RenegadeMycologist]

Hey guys. So I've only really been picking in the mountains around the ACT so I'm not very familiar with the different species around NSW. My girlfriend and I found these on a stroll and they look a lot like cubes but I'm not 100%. They don't bleed blue from the stem but the the frills have  a fair bit of blue. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Obviously nothing will be consumed until they're identified. Thanks in advance to ya. https://

I’m doing alright.. mostly single specimens with the odd cluster here and there but with enough digging around I can find enough to keep me going.

They look like leratiomyces ceres. Non actives, but a good indicator that psilocybe subaeruginosa might be growing close by.

Glad it's not just me, thought I'd take a stickybeak this year and I've found nothing! Got a handful in the pine forests out by oberon but that's been it. Pretty discouraging for the first year of serious hunting.

Hi everyone

I'm heading from newy up to Crescent head today and will be returning on Thursday. There's been a bit of rain and am hoping to find some subs in the bush somewhere along the way.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello can subaeruginosa grow in the Forster Tuncurry area? Or is it to far north?

@El-dogg me and bobwastaken have guides, i have one for subs, his is on magic mushrooms in general. His can be found here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22172072 and mine is in my signature at the bottom of my post. It should help you.

@Benbrown they have been found just over into Queensland so they should grow in that area too.

They do and I've seen afew patches as far as Yamba.  Just keep looking (especially after these rains) and be patient. Or just stick to the summer paddocks.
I took afew good years off and my old patch had flourished so much I'm just tempted to just let it go..I used to get so greedy.

Bit late to reply. Crescent head P.cubensis would be more likely. It's a funny place in that the temperature is warm there for that part of NSW.

In the future in sub season if you are up there again go for a drive west of the Pacific highway. Seeking more elevated areas for cooler temperatures.

West of Coffs Harbour they are still fruiting up in the hills. Wet winter with milder night temps (less frost) can extend their season right through until August. They were early this year fruiting from the end of March onwards.

I had some luck early in the season. No rain for a whole month and the start of the season real did the season in.

Anyone having any luck in Sydney? I checked out the royal national Park for the first time. There were mushrooms but very few and not many that I'm used to seeing around subs.

Hey guys, I'm new here, and I've just got a few questions if you don't mind.

I'm from the New England region (Tamworth/Armidale/Glen Innes), and have been out a few times looking for subs, and found plenty of mushrooms, but no subs . There's a pine plantation near my town which is a known spot for them, so I'm pretty sure I'm in the right general area.

I've had a look through the Subaeruginosa guide, which has been pretty damn helpful, but I've got a few more specific questions that aren't covered in the guide.

1. How long after the rain do they pop up? I've read/been told anywhere from 1-5 days. If it rains overnight, will they be up by the morning, or should I give it a bit more time?

2. In some spots the plantation is super thick with other plants (weeds, I presume). It's always considerably more damp in these spots, and there's heaps more fungus in general. Are spots like this going to be my best bet? You can see in the background of this first picture just how thick the bush is. In the second is a more open spot that looks a it more like what I've seen in a few YouTube videos.

3. The season is April-September, and they like night-time(?) temperatures of 5-15 degrees. It starts getting below 0 where I live in May, does this mean I have to wait until it starts to warm up again? Or do I just need some more mild night-time temperatures (Every now and then, especially if it's going to rain overnight, it'll be 4 degrees, for example, instead of -4).

I've attached a few examples of what I've been finding. These "little brown mushrooms" are all over the place after a good rain. I'm pretty sure they're Galerinas, apparently the most common "lookalike" to subs and quite poisonous? They seem to stay quite small, maybe ~7cm tall at the most, and the stalk is wholly orange when they're new, and change to orange at the base and white towards the cap when they're a bit older.

Pretty sure your lookalikes are Pholiota communis.

Best advice i could give you having never been to your area is to follow the moisture. As in creeks. Also look for brakken fern. Good luckk.

In my uneducated opinion, I'd say you're right. These have no veil, where Galerinas do?

Yeah, that's looking like the go. I'm finding more fungus in general when the environment is more moist in general.

1-5 days seems correct.

They could definitely be found in something like the first pic. The grasses are good in the second pic, but it doesnt look right, a bit exposed.
