Hey guys! I also live in the ATL. I have always enjoyed the bountiful bouquets of fungus after a good rain, but I've never actually went looking for an active species. So if I could ask a few questions about Weilli:
What is this bermuda grass? Just like a regular lawn?
Do they grow in the woods?
How much longer is the season?
Thanks guys! Appreciate y'alls knowledge.

They do appear to grow in woods but not nearly as plentiful as they do in lush bermuda grass. Bermuda grass is the soft, kinda thick grass that is placed down, usually in squares, at new housing and business complexes. Its also what is used on the majority of golf courses. Its real smooth looking in appearence and will be the shortest grass on the course. The putting greens are shorter but are usually turf so dont look there. From what I hear the season last from September to late November. I hope I was of some help and good luck!

Can anyone give a good description of them? Mushroom John's site only says that the spore print is purple/brown (like mose psilos). What is the gill color? I see that they're attached... Any info would be helpful.

We do need someone to post a field guide-like discription. I would but none of my books have weilii in them. I know they are around 4in. tall and the caps look like there made of wax. They also have a dark colored nipple on the top of the cap thats usually black. And from most pictures Ive seen the stem is white near the cap and brown towards the bottom. Also the stem is tough and they smell like old cucumbers.

an expert should know this  .... if you want to keep them fresh, 3 days in the fridge should do it... but I would get them drying in a desicant chamber asap...

found 100 ehh? you sure do make alot of claims... you must have a bomb spot... how long, and in what county did you look in .

hater ehh? nah just trying to get to the bottom of a case I have been trying to crack for months....

are you sure a fridge= mush? I have never tried it but I buy mushrooms at the store and they stay fine in the fridge..... leaving them in a paper bag for 3 days SURELY spells out rotten.... dry them,

envy you? oh I do...  you are having better luck.... I still have my doubts though... :peace:

Read MJShroomers old preservation posts. Paper means a nice dry. A nice dry means preservation, then when dry, refrigerate/keep cool.

Store mushrooms have preservation chemicals, or are already dried and cured properly.

rasjoe, 100 today? I'd like to see it. Usually your posts have 3-4 weilii in it. Nothing near 100...

very funny... but I really wonder, a picture says alot around here...

some of the pictures you posted were definatly not weilii and there seems to be some cross information... I am not saying you never find them ,but perhaps you exagerated?

If they really are out there in number like that ,then leave 1 or 3 in the ground to fly with the breeze..  it will be good karma for next year

Alright, I'll clear up a few things.

1. Weilii ALWAYS bruise blue. Always.

2. Keeping mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator is the best way to keep them fresh for a few days. They will not "go to mush." Plastic bags cause mushrooms to "go to mush."

3. Everyone keeps asking for a description of this mushroom. I know I've typed one up at least 3 times and LK has done it probably like 50. UTFSE!

(UTFSE= use the fucking search engine).

glad you cleared a few things up... the bruising is the key factor for me... there are alot more look alikes then just the link you posted... bruising , then sporeprint later, is how I id.. I wish I had a camera to show how close these other mushrooms look to weilii... they will bruise within minutes right?

Thanks mastacheefa! You definitely answered my questions. And thanks to a few others (specially Gumby) for the random info. I wish everyone much luck in the coming days and weeks. Peace!

What are the legal issues of having a trashbag full of FRESH weilii in your car if you get pulled?
