So after moving to Vic in the last 2 years this is the 1st uear going for a hunt completely different environment from my normal QLD area so having teething issues. Found a solo sub today in a reserve but it was litterally just the one plenty of other fungi around and signs either animals had been diggin around or humans easily be both, but I'm used to goldys growing in clusters I'm guessing subs do the same am I right if so I'm on close to home?

Took a long lockdown walk today to every patch I've been to locally. Couple here, couple there, and a promising new area I might head back to if we get more rain this week.

Getting really demoralized this season. Have spent over 10 hours looking the past few weeks after rains and found nothing. Mainly the SE suburbs but stretching closer towards the city at times. Checking woodchip beds and around small parks with eucalyptus and pine trees. Found one very sub-like shroom yesterday, but alas, no blue bruising.

A lot of the places I look resemble the places I've been seeing hat have been successful here. I wonder if I'm just beaten by other shroomers or my area hasn't got much in terms of subs.

Will keep persevering but starting to lose my enthusiasm slowly. :frown:

It happens. They're out and about but they are hiding. Take a stroll in a place you maybe don't think they'd grow, somewhere new, keep a close eye. They'll find you.

Completely agree with Lnfxx, you just might be surprised when you look in unlikely areas. One new spot for me this year was in a tiny 10 x 5 metre reserve, exposed, off a main road. Hardly any trees/shrubs, never would've thought kinda place.

It has some identifying information there, though it could be better. A very general way is to look for caramel/orange/brown caps with white stems and the mushrooms stains blue.

The best way i found to identify them is to look at plenty of photos of them, which will give you a general idea of what to look for in the field.

Also if you are just starting post photos of the mushrooms you found here on the forums and we will give you a positive ID, provided good photos showing all the parts of the mushroom.

Herro! I moved here from Southern Tassie before the season. The first time I went out to hunt 2 weeks ago, didn't think I was gonna find any, but I did! Out in the bush. I live in the CBD, and in lockdown 2 days ago I challenged myself to find a sub within the 5km radius, I ended up finding a few to my surprise! Literally right in the heart of the CBD!!!! Bruh.... CBD Subs are HELLA small tho.... You gotta have seriously good vision just to spot them. The subs here look different as well... A lot more caramel colored then the ones down in Southern Tassie. Southern Tassie bush subs are super bright, whereas the subs here are a little more gold.

Urban Psilocybe subaeruginosa tend to be shorter and more squat than ones found out in local forests.

This prolly gets asked every year but I wonder how many of you guys consume your (mostly, I presume) subs fresh or dry and whether you notice a big difference in the quality of the trip?

Many of the other shroomery threads discuss this but many of those folks are european/american and deal with different species (cubensis)
