Didn't find many last time I went out in East Midlands, maybe spotted around 20 in an hour...just don't think we had enough rain here to get the awesome flushes others have had. It's barely rained in 2 weeks. Getting cold for a few days now, they might withstand the drop in temps but not holding my breath.

found a few on a walk few days ago, so i picked them but i forgot about them in a box, it wasnt quite warm enough to dry and they turned too mushy,so I threw them on the lawn in the back, is there chance they could grow there next year ?

Found this little guy unexpectedly up Brecon a few days ago (thought it would be too cold at this point)

Also made my first ever find in the SW Valleys a few weeks ago! Hadn't thought about mushrooms for years and accidently sat next to a bunch on a hike:

All dried out now - think of saving them for the right occasion

Hi all. Thinking of going out this weekend to Nant-y-moch reservoir. Anyone know if its worth going if not Anyone willing to share any other locations. Had decent bit of success about 6 weeks ago.

Does anyone know if the season can restart after a frost? All mushrooms disappeared from my lawns following the frost, but since it's been mild for just over a week, the lawn is covered in all sorts of mushrooms, as well as that one lib I found above.
Just wondering if it's worth a trip to the hill for a hunt 🤔
And I am aware that the cold may have negatively affected the higher altitude of my hunting hill, but it's probably only 50m higher than where I am.

It restarts, but in the next fall. Psilocybe semilanceata has a long growth cycle, it's not like P.cubensis or some other mushrooms which grow year round if the conditions allow. Liberty's mycelium goes into hibernation if the frost is deep and does not thaw up during some time. And then it awakens the next season.
You could find a mushroom or two now, but those are there because they expanded from a leftover pins which formed during the main fruiting season. Due to the snow/ice melt and sudden increase in humidity, pins absorb water and inflate, so it appears that mushrooms started fruiting again. In a sense they are, but further primordia (pin) formation is halted.

This story is from three years ago, I am quoted as “an experienced forager” 😉. That year they were still growing until the new year, although numbers dwindled from December onwards. We’ve still not had a proper frost here in Devon, I haven’t been up to Dartmoor for a month or so but think I might go for a wander this afternoon. I’ll report back.

Why would you illustrate a story about libs with a photo of cubes? By their own photographer too, not stock.

Went to the field, saw nothing at the top, was convinced that the cold snap of a month ago had finished them off. Then walked to the bottom, about a 50m drop, and found this little fella, soon followed by three more in the same area. 😀

Re the Guardian story. The journo is a great bloke, he told me at the time that he has no control of the photos or headlines they decide to use.

Gorgeous!
Keep looking in the same spot, maybe you'll find a few even on Christmas day.

Found last week few steps away from the sea shore in Somerset. I wasn't looking for Libs at all. They found me as I walked along the path. There must have been more out there. They were BIG !
