★★★ Official Nordic / Baltic P. semilanceata season 2021 ★★★ * 3
    #27419420 - 08/08/21 11:31 AM (3 months, 18 days ago)

Hi fellas, it’s quite early and i didn't expect any p. semilanceata.
Today i went to visit my forest path, to check the moisture and grass growth. I was shocked when i saw that my forest path fruiting like crazy. First time picking so early.
I have a good feeling that this season is coming huge!

Some collections do blue quite nicely, others not at all or just very little.

Thank you, John

Three specimens observed today at the edge of a dryish mossy forest path. Only one photo thought due to some issues with my phone.

Also my friend from the Finnish forums has already his lawn full of them.

Hello,

Ah nice. I was under the impression to look in open fields but you say forest paths. What type of forest, mixed trees or all year greens/pine?
I have maybe foolishly looking in open grass areas.

As I said first time hunting so any/all tips would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

So, inspired by this thread I had to get out this evening and check the forest path that gave
me such a pleasant surprise last year already in July. And sure enough, despite a month long
draught, after the last three nights of showers they have arrived once again.

Not in great numbers yet, but promising I'd say.

I think I ended up with about twice the amount as that in this last picture.
These had obviously just started coming up, check the babies in the third pic.

Greetings from Northern Finland!

These and many other nice clusters were also found from a forest path, open grasslands still seem too dry.

I found two specimens yesterday from my new Pholiotina cyanopus habitat. It's been warm and dry in my whereabouts and I only found about 20 Pholiotina cyanopus specimens, but I have a good feeling about the place. Just need some rains.

Thank you, Anglerfish and velho! More photos coming when the season really kicks off. I also started photographing Psilocybe medullosa last year after finding a bunch of nice habitats, so probably sharing some of that material too later on.

Shout-out to velho for spreading the word on lesser known species in the Finnish psilocybin community!

Congratulations everyone

I found some today as well. On a forest path of course. That habitat is always earlier than the pastures.

I was going to leave them to spread their spores, but with raspberrys growing just a meter away I thought what the hell, I will take a microdose. So I picked 3 of the 6. I thought the raspberrys would mask the mushroom taste but it didn't really help at all!

I can't find any info on the internet about picking libs in forest paths. Do you look in any forest path that has this specific grass? Do farm animals go through this path?

I believe people riding horses along these paths are important to spread the spores... I can't prove it but have a strong feeling there are some involvement from these animals...

I always look into turfs of Deschampsia cespitosa because this is a species the liberty caps like to associate with.

I go by mountain bike to many cover kilometers of paths and have found about 20-30 habitats by doing this. They usually come back several years in a row in good spots.

Hi there,

I have a simple suggestion.
Why not make spore prints whilst you are drying the mushrooms?
Or take mycelial samples from the stems?
Then you can inoculate your own agar or liquid medium.

love and kisses

Cilla :-) x x x

Because liberty caps are almost impossible to grow at home and even if you somehow manage that the yield you get is much smaller than what you would get from cubensis.

You can however use spores to spread liberty caps to new pastures, grasslands and golf courses.

Went out a little stroll in the forest path yesterday, night temps have dropped considerably the last
week but it is still fairly dry. They are however coming along quite nicely. Didn't pick more than maybe
a hundred, the light was fading fast so I just managed to get a few snapshots. Soon I had trouble seeing
the little fellows, but as I walked back towards civilisation I saw neat little troops greeting me in the twilight.

I guess he's gonna make a huge bowl of psychedelic punch and invite lots of friends for a hilarious party.
Seriously though, that haul is probably enough to send at least ten people far out in a distant galaxy.

Nice finds everyone! Seems it has begun in here aswell. Found a nice bunch from my backyard meadow, like 50m away from my house.

Some of today's haul - Psilocybe semilanceata, Psilocybe medullosa and Pholiotina cyanopus.

Hi everyone! I came here in 2019 when I had the goal of finding some lib caps and to experience them for the first time. Unfortunately, after searching many, many meadows and fields and forest paths I found almost nothing, so I was disappointed and kind of lost interest. Now after 2 years of hiatus I am motivated to finish what I started and find my shroomies. If anyone has any tips for me in Estonia I am all ears. I'll post if I get lucky this time. Happy hunting everyone.

The best tip you can get is that you keep searching in the same types of habitat you have found them previously.
Patience and persistence are key factors which over time will increase your chances to get lucky.
I'm pretty sure you'll succeed eventually if you put some extra effort in, and check the fields thoroughly
and without rushing. Given it is still quite early, you could perhaps try to search out some grassy forest
roads like the ones shown in above posts in this thread. Search for well shaded areas.

Looking forward to see what you can find, happy hunting!

Quick question. You place your finds on white paper to get spore sprints and make final identification for safety?

Hello everyone. Very nice finds Estonians. I’m a bit struggling to find something over in Lithuania. I have experience picking, I lived in Ireland and used to find heaps of liberty caps. I’ve been using the magicmushroommap to find the most red locations. The fields here in lithuania don’t look promising at all. Checked alot of forest paths with 0 luck. What kind of fields do you guys try and find? The ones i come across feel like its a working land if that makes sense. Thanks looking for some advice here.

Thanks Liberto, this map is really helpful no doubt, just the best spots lead me to farms where there’s people living around. I guess I’ll try driving around a bit more. I used this map abroad and had really successful years. First time hunting in my homeland, hoping for the best.

The best luck i've had is looking where sheep graze and looking for this specific plant. Here is a useful guide for the Nordics.

Also for some reason that map has Finland blacked out in the South, not sure why. Maybe not enough rain, but i've been finding some!

Finally, in the last spot, I found 4 small ones, but thats not enough I think  Nothing else around. Other places seem to be wrong or just too try.

Don't give up hope yet that's a good start, go back after some more rain! I'm yet to stumble on any 'easy finds', it takes me some time and a good eye/ digging a bit in the shrubbery to find them, they can be pretty well hidden!

Still dry as a donkeys dick in southern Norway, went out for a walk in the woods today, TONS of Amanita muscaria though! Contemplated taking them home, but meh, didn't bother with 'em, some of them had a diameter of 23cm, which is pretty large - I guess if people are looking for muscaria's, now's a prime time! Most of them were really dry as well, would've saved some electricity if one decided to dry them =) Does anyone here partake in muscaria? I've tried it two times (prepared as a tea to reduce the amount of ibotenic acid, after drying on high heat, strangely the taste of the tea is actually really nice, even without any other additives), but it wasn't really that interesting, mostly like alcohol in terms of intoxication.

It depends. I don't hunt them as much as I used to since I rarely indulge in psilocybin these days, my hunting
is mostly for the thrill and there are usually good spots for edibles close to my lib spots. The most i've picked
in a season was probably ten years ago, more or less 120 grams dried. On average it's probably 50-60 grams, or
around a 1000 specimens, give or take. I usually give most of it away.

Really depends. I don't go out hunting everyday anymore like I used to, but I tend to try to collect as much as I would consider needing to survive throught the harsh Finnish winter and that's usually around a few hundred specimens. The dark perioid can really get to you even as a Finn, so "enhanching the colors" every now and then can make it a less tedious perioid. I think my best seasons has been something between 3000 to 3500 specimens.

What is weird is that only that road has some. 50m to the left or right has many other roads too but have none.

Well, they all go where the best party is, I guess. Or perhaps rather the best substrate.

From soil map it shows Histic Gleysols soil type. Acidic sandy gleysol soil. I have looked up all the soils and now take into consideration also the type of soil they should grow in.

I feel I have betrayed this thread with my lack of posting finds. I have been so busy working, so have
hardly had the time to forage much. But I'll try to make up for it with a few pictures nonetheless.

Just curious. How much P.semis do you guys usually get under a season?

Ah that's nice! I also hunt for the thrill of it. Never tried shrooms or psychedelics before, but plan to this fall/winter.. I think I've found about 20g dried and thats more then enough for me.. But then again I just found a new field yesterday so I might pick some more this season.
I've had a lot of fun hunting for shrooms!

We had our first frost hit us this night. And it's been really dry for the past couple weeks so the season might soon be over here..

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm way up north in Scandinavia. I found quite a good haul of Psilocybe semilanceata September 15-16, but then temps dropped more and got close to below zero at night the following couple days. Leaf colours turned pretty quickly and everything is a nice red/orange at the moment. I checked again at the usual spots on the 21st but there were almost zero mushrooms of any kind growing in the pastures and surrounding forest (the Deschampsia cespitosa was starting to brown too). There has been quite a lot of rain this weekend and then temps are supposed to climb to 15o day/8o night Monday-Wednesday with some sun. Is it worth going out hunting again? Could there be a second flush of liberties? Or would the near-frost have sent them into a dormant winter?

It is worth going out checking, yes. A dip into the blue won't kill them off. It might even give them a little kick to get more fruits going.
I've picked them even from lightly snow covered fields. It is the deep, hard and long frost that heralds the end of the season.
I remember that somebody here in Norway even found them in February this year, after a three-four weeks cover of snow melted
during a mild spell.

How far north are you?

If you don't look, you won't know what's there. when conditions are right, they will grow. I hunt year round, but I like being outdoors in the woods or pastures, there's always something to see.

Those witches hats are strong. Only 1.5g lemon tek tea whith 4cl vodka was like 2.5 or even 3. It has witchy effect too. When most of my semilanceatas trips were beautiful geoometric pattern trips, then those were like i had healing powers and saw demonic faces closed eyes. They were like different species.

Witch hats  I remember back in some years North/Baltic topic they were argued to be / or called psilocybe strictipes, but if I recall correctly they`re just semilanceata with particular growth "style". I have found these kind of semis growing always in taller grass. And also seemed to me as different species.

So finally came the heavy rain here in north Estonia. Should go do some hunting in few days. Seems season is still upon us

picked some fresh ones 3 days ago on a patch of "roll out grass" around a newly build block, took some and put a piece on agar to see what happens.
(fukin hard to taketissue sample on those ones)

the autumn had a kick back here in mid noruega and seems to be producing some more. so iĺl just have to get back out there i guess

this year have been a record year by the way (over 900g, must be like more or less 25000 maybe)
been out 3.5 weeks on the hunt just driving back and forth through the mountains (and sleeping at friends when possible)

to be able to track rain/moisture and with that use maps and satelite view is truly an amazing tool for finding old farmsteads long abandoned by man..

the experiance have been mind altering to say the least. it truly has an effect to deeply dive into that kind of energy, to kind of bond with semils.
in the end i more or less lost it in sence of my own perception of being.

i couldnt close my eyes without seeing semils, couldnt think about other things than grass and moisture levels. My eyefocus changed so that i could only see details and had a hard time taking in "the bigger picture" .
also the effect of that small dopamine rush from finding one semil x 20000+ just wore my mind out.

i had to go to SemilRehab after that just to rest my self to pieces. Alot similar to the after effect of any kind of mind altering, just longer and stronger.

definitly going out next year again ..

Congratulations. But may I ask why? I mean, it's more than anyone will consume in a 10 year period, and the back pain/muscle ache after picking all those must be quite strong... I have found it better to stop picking when it's enough and just enjoy the sight of mushrooms growing everywhere.

I know exactly what you mean! The brain is so focused on scanning grass, it's hard to calm it down when it's triggering on mushrooms all the time.

why is a good question, i really dont know either.
i guess that i at one point see it as a kind of community service, with a quite decent salary thats mixes my deep need for prolonged stays in the outdoors and my love for all mycolife.

and another is to try what is possible to find if one really gets into the hunt.
And study how that affects you and so on, another way to travel i guess.

To push ones boundaries beyond something..

The last 5 years ive been spending more and more time each season, finding more and more spots and areas, logging altitude and rain patterns on that have given me quite good feeling on when/where they will popup.

Norway is litterally one huge semil farm..

And the sensation when you hit that "i have to stay here for 2 days" mega field in full peak flush is just a priceless larger than life kind of feeling..

it gives living a true meening

2021 has been a good year in Norway, I reckon. I'm somehow missing the Swedish hunters in this thread.
And where did OP go? He had massive hauls early on, but haven't seen him around here. ST1R, where are you?

The little bastards are still popping up, although I haven't been actively looking for them in a while.
These jumped out at me from an urban park lawn this morning, less than 500 meters from my house:

I'm in Bergen to be precise. Lots of good spots in the surrounding areas. I haven't been going out looking
for three or four weeks, and the ones I found today were purely by accident, on a park lawn where there
has been no fungal activity at all so far this season.

If you have the time next season you should consider going further north, apparently the Nordland county
is the most prolific of all areas in the country, and also vast areas with no people around so you can pick
without disturbance.

yeah thats a good place to start, since they must be earlier there?

ive seen em here around oslo in mid august so further up it must at least be the same.
and then pick myself downwards along the coast,
Thats a proper adventure for sure.

Plans for 2022 is coming along, iĺl gonna need a camper next year!

This year i just started to explore the westlands around vestkapp and it was almost endless incomparment to the lottery style hunting thats in the east.

faschinating stuff.
WOuld be cool to go to other similar biotopes like færøyarne/ iceland  or ireleand/scotland just to get some change in scenery.

Fleintourism ftw

Still coming up in select spots, this is from a pasture located on an island:

And a bunch of Conocybe sp. fruiting nearby:

Hey, nice! You found these very recently? I picked a few a couple of days ago, there seems to be a small flush
in certain spots now, but I guess winter and deep frost is not very far ahead now.
